Hopefully, the presence of the peacekeepers will end this shit. At least the rebel leader isn't going "Death to Americans" and is promising cooperation. I just wonder if they are going to get yet another thug as their president. I almost think that Haiti needs a US military governor to sit on them until they stop being third world shits, but that would never happen and probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway, politically or militarily.

Installing a US military governor is the best way to have them scream "Death to Americans". Haiti is a sovereign nation, help will be welcome, occupation won't.

So if there was anything to gain, say there was oil on Haiti, then you would occupy it? I was thinking modern politics moved more along the lines of "we don't do invasions" than "we only do invasions when we have something to gain".

Haiti certainly wouldn't be the backwater third world shithole it is today if they had oil.

They aren't that fucking stupid. The rebels have said from the beginning that this was about removing Aristide and they have been very careful to avoid doing anything to anger both the world community and the United States.

That's why I said it wasn't a good idea. My point is that they need someone other than the local thugs to run the country, because all the strongman types in Haiti do not seem to have any interest in making Haiti better.
