Gaddafi having to deal with terrorists...kind of poetic.

Interestingly wouldn't this put Libya on the side of the "good guys" and push Iran more strongly into "the Axis of Evil"?

It certainly isn't a good time to be actively associating with terrorists and threatening to sick them on people/nations. You've got to wonder what Iran is thinking. The secrecy of their nuclear program already seems to be in question I don't see how it is in their best interest to associate with terrorists and to have it revealed that they've been lying about their nuclear weapons program.

Personally I think they have a right to build nuclear weapons just as any other nation but it goes against the current international political climate.

Just say No to WMD....unless you've already got them.

Libya has already made advances to the West, and seems to publicly want to rejoin the international community. Although privately they still cling to some of their violent ways, it is clear that the Iranians feel threatened by the Libyan peace overtures, and seem to think that they are losing an ally from the fundamentalist Islamic world.

I see this future for many shithole countries as the whole world (EVEN CHINA, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE) westernizes around them. They'll get more and more isolated, and lonely, and desperate until they cave, or they do something stupid and the world has to go in, reach up their collective asses, and jerk 'em inside out. Metaphorically.

Eventually, the asshat-style of government will fizzle out, and be replaced by bright-eyed, bushy tailed Reformers, drooling over the decadence they see presented to them on the T.V. "Why don't we have that?" They'll think. "Why are their cities so clean, why can they listen to whatever they want? Why can they drive nice cars, have nice houses and so on and all of these things?[/arnold]" They'll get jealous, they'll raise a stink, the old leaders get elected out or whatever, and replaced by new, less fundie people. it can't go on forever, the way I see it. (Islamic fundamentalist rule and all.) Won't call it a flash in the pan, but, the flame is dying as we speak.

Amusingly, this will probably hurt them even worse, and drive Quaddafi even more greatly into the West's arms. They'll restore him to respectability, and his country into modernism, and only further marginalize themselves.

As true as your conclusion is, I must say I can't really see that: the Israelis have to deal with Hezbollah constantly in Lebanon with Katyushkas and the like, and has even invaded before, as opposed to simply trashing a nuke plant in the other country.

Iran liberalization seemed like a more reasonable possibility a year ago, not so much anymore.

Because unlike North Korea or Iran, we where actively fighting Iraq, and unlike North Korea or Iran we could invade and end the problem quickly, and without seeing several million civilians dead.

I was referring to the stupidity of them doing something like this when they are trying to cooperate with the UN over their nuclear issues(since they are blowing smoke, it probably won't matter, but you never know). Apparently they DO give a shit.
