Not really, just lucid dreams. Those are the dreams where you realize you are dreaming. Those can be fun.

I've had one. And that was my one and only night terror. I was eight and it involved the Hound of the Baskervilles. *Shudder*

No no, that's a lucid dream. A waking dream is when you think you're awake and are convinced its all real.

I only get lucid dreams when I've come half awake and just haven't opened my eyes yet. I'll continue whatever dream I was having, but suddenly I have control of it. And if its a nightmare, I give myself an M-16 and rock & roll on whatever the nameless terror of that night is.

@ rouge 9 : I meant Lucid dreams. I forgot to quote the relevent post to my reply. I edited my post so now it shouldn't be confusing.

I think so. They normally involve shadowy figures lurking in the corner of my room or standing over my bed and me cowering under the covers afraid to draw breath until I realise that it is just a dream.
After all, this is completely straightforward. What could possibly go wrong?

I had one where I woke up, but was still dreaming. When I actually woke up, I sat there for a bit, running through my head how to tell if I was still dreaming or not... I figured having such a long train of thought that wasn't interrupted by bizarre imagry was good enough a sign.

Oh, then I've had those occasionally. Early one was when I was four and saw a demon down the hallway. Tall, slender black shape with glowing red eyes.

I was kind of thinking more along the lines of a baseball bat, anyways.

Ha ha ha ha.
Still you gotta be careful. Getting whacked on the head (or anywhere else) by even a baseball bat is not the best of ways to start the day!

Sometimes, I'll slip into this weird thing at night, where I'll be awake (or at least I think I'm awake) and can look around my room, but can't move a muscle in my body. It's fucking awful, and I used to get stuck like that, until I realized I could snap out of it by making a really quick jerking motion, i.e. snapping my head sideways really quickly.

I get sleep paralysis nightmares, but I don't think that's what you're asking about.

I do occasionally have dreams where I can control what's going on, but my experience has been that trying to take things over and fight back only makes my nightmares worse. There was one where I was being chased by someone and I produced a rifle out of nowhere and emptied a clip into him: the guy of course just got right back up with worms crawling in the bullet holes.

i think i've had a waking dream or two. one time i was sleepwalking, but couldn't tell whether i was really doing it or just dreaming it. the next morning i found out much to my embarrassment.

the other dream involved me sitting up in my bed and seeing a nasty demon made of fire come out of a big red portal in front of my closet. freaked the hell out of me.

The body paralyzes your skeletal muscles when you're in REM sleep and dreaming. If you're dreaming and suddenly wake up usually your muscles switch back on, but sometimes they don't.

Yep, I dont remember what I saw, but it was enough for me to jump half way across the room in the process of waking up, landing on my friends who happened to be sleeping on the floor at the time, they were slightly confused, to say the least...

Hah, yes. Several times. They were all quite annoying. Once, I dreamed that I took a nap, woke up, went online, did some writing, posted a couple times on SD.net, and had a wonderful conversation with a friend of mine . . . then I woke up and realized, much to my disappointment, that the only thing that I'd managed to accomplish to that point was waking up from the nap.

My first nightmare. I woke up and it was still going on. Happened a few subsequent times too iirc.
