Re: has anyone ever had a waking dream....
I have sleep paralysis when I'm not sleeping well for over a period of days.

I really fucking hate those dreams where you have something happen like trip up or get shot or fall off a cliff or something and you jerk as if it was real and wake yourself up.
And as for the paralysis, never had it happen to me, but Rogue's right, your brain conserves energy by switching off non-essential muscle activity during REM and deep-wave sleep patterns.
Still no one knows what the fuck sleep is for.

Its not just to conserve energy. You'd actually get up and do what you're doing in the dream if it didn't do that. Sleepwalking happens in deep sleep patterns when you're not dreaming and the muscles are switched on.Admiral Valdemar wrote:I really fucking hate those dreams where you have something happen like trip up or get shot or fall off a cliff or something and you jerk as if it was real and wake yourself up.

Ah, but sleepwalking doesn't occur to everyone, it's a special sort of conciousness. And the switching off of muscles, as in the case I illustrated, isn't always so since you can actually make moves in your sleep due to dreams sometimes which results in waking up. Sleep patterns can be erratic depending on mental state and REM length differs greatly from species to species too. There seems no real link or reason for it.Rogue 9 wrote:Its not just to conserve energy. You'd actually get up and do what you're doing in the dream if it didn't do that. Still you gotta be careful. Getting whacked on the head (or anywhere else) by even a baseball bat is not the best of ways to start the day!

After all, this is completely straightforward. What could possibly go wrong?

I hate Matt Damon and there's not a damn thing you can do about it
No, I'm not on drugs. I'm like this all the time.

*Stomps off*
I've got that horrible waking dream. I'm still in it and I call it "life". I can't wait when it is over.
Other than that, I *hate* dreams but *love* nightmares.

I read once that cats that had the part of the brain that does this deactivated with neurosurgery would chase imaginary mice while they were asleep.Rogue 9 wrote:Its not just to conserve energy.
