What happened to your moralistic rants on how the U.S. "should" behave.

This is nothing more than a dodge for the fact the EU is a bunch of hypocritical assholes. Fuck them.

Yes indeed. Why don't you just impose some more illegal subsides to 'fuck them'. :roll:

This is why worldwide taxation of income is fucking stupid and we need to switch to territorial taxation like the Europeans have. But this will probably never happen, because we just have to make sure those evil corporate pig-dogs are paying their "fair share."

Speaking of which, most European countries have a territorial taxation system, like I said, meaning their tax rate on corporations for foreign-earned income is 0%. Sounds like an "illegal subsidy" to me, let's get the WTO to go after the EU! :roll:

Yeah, because I suggested just that.

Since when can a foreign body dictate what is and is not legal for the United States??? :wtf:

Correct me if I'm worng, but I thought that THE PEOPLE determined (indirectly through the Constitution), what is legal and illegal for the Federal Government of the United States.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

They can't, but we'll probably cave in anyway.

I'll rephrase that;

Since when can a foreign body dicatate was is and is not legal for <insert country here>?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that <insert powerbase of said country here> determined what is legal and illegal for the <insert Government here>.

The answer;

Since <insert country here> signed the treaties of <insert said foreign body here> agreeing to abide by <insert rules of practice here>. When <insert government of said country here> viloates these treaties to which it is signed, the <insert said foreign body here> reserves the right to imply punitive measures to <insert said country here>, as was agreed upon when <insert said country here> signed and ratified the treaty(ies) it has now violated.

It's not exactly rocket science you know.

Bah, Congress (or one of the other brances of the government) should stop being such pussies and come out and explicitly state that the proclimations of the WTO (and the UN for that matter) are non-binding and irrelevant without the approval of the Congress.

There is nothing in the Constitution that gives Congress the Power to delegate the ability to write and i nterpret laws to a foreign "body".

<whispers>Psst. Guess what? There is nothing in your precious constitution about the 6 billion+ people on this world who aren't citizens of the US of A...</whispers>

Are you being intentionally obtuse?

You can of course leave the WTO, even the UN anytime you wish. No one is keeping you there you know.

And if you (or indeed anyother country) remain apart of an international organisation and refuse to follow its treaties, then it also is 'dead', no?

The US lost their case in the WTO, and now they have to pay. Quite simple.
The US could always sue against the EU in the WTO about things you don'Tt like, and then change it.
FYI the EU currently pays an anual 150 million dollars (IIRC) for not allowing American hormone beef into our market. We don't bitch about it.

Of course not, your domestic cattle industry will rake in much more money because its prices won't be undercut by lower US prices. Its like paying a dollar fine to have a monopoly on selling crack to celebrities. Sure, you lose a dollar but your making MUCH more money then your losing.

Blk, dont be a fucking asshole. There's nothing outside the WTO that says we've got to play even marginally nice on economics with you....hell, as international treaties mean shit, we could just sink boats with beef coming here rather than pay the 150 million.

If you want to play civilized you play by the rules. If you dont, we can all go back to hitting each other with sticks....

Just a hunch, but I think the U.S. Navy might have something to say about that if you did. :P You'd lose a lot more in warships.

But we'd eventually win that particular contest, since you'd eventually run out of ships to send at us. :P

*snort* Besides, in this particular fantasy scenario, it'd be the EU which initially escalated to violence anyway.

It's more a reference to the fact that you can't run and hide saying 'It's not in the constitution! We don't gotta!' if a treaty the US signs requires something. Of course, that's not quite the case here: It's other people exercising their sovereignty to remind the US they are not alone in the universe.

The simple solution to this delemma: The US should start conforming to the average European's opinion of the US.

That means cutting off all european imports, and threaten to vaporize all European capitals unless they pay massive tributes to the US :mrgreen:.
