There was nothing in the local paper about this incident.
It might have been mentioned on one of the local TV stations, but I didn't see anything about it on TV either.
As far as what he did, he said that he wanted a reaction.
He also wanted to prove “that Christians aren’t as forgiving as they portray”.
He certainly got one. Having a 75 year old woman pour a soft drink over your head must be a little humiliating.
Interestingly enough, I wonder if what he did would fall under the
'fighting words' doctrine.
I don't know what (if anything) he said to the people in the audience, but his comment on wanting to prove “that Christians aren’t as forgiving as they portray” could certainly be taken as intent to incite an incident.
IMHO, if the police are investigating the incident, they're probably doing so with an eye towards charging Mr. Wendell, not the 75 year old woman who dumped a coke on him.
This is a very conservative area.
