I would agree with that, Fellowship was the superior movie, but I think the Academy just held out until the last one to present the Oscars.

Sean Penn was acting. Acting so much we could tell he was acting. I felt nothing while watching that clip of Mystic River. He was completely over the top.

Bill Murray was subtle and sly, conveying just as much with physical movement as he did vocally. It was his best performance.

You're just basing your opinion on the clips?

And, yes, he was over the top in that scene. He should have gotten a nomination for 21 grams instead, since he was much better there.

I can understand why they may have held out but FotR should have won. It was clearly better than the other films for that year.

Now, since I've only seen one of the other nominees I can't say whether ROTK was the best of this year for certain. While I really enjoyed it and thought it was very cool as a whole it had some weak spots that I wouldn't normally associated with the year's best picture.

I didn't get the feeling he was over-the-top but you are right that Bill Murray did do a very good job.

Now how about the best actress category?

I haven't seen any of those movies but from the clips the only one I wouldn't vote for was Diane Keaton.

Also, anyone know why they have to get beautiful actresses have them gain weight and then "ugly" them up with make-up and prosthetics? Aren't there people who would better fit the part without having to "pull a Deniro" (and thens some) to get the job done?

If they are just going for name recognition to draw people in that sucks. I don't want to pay to see a movie with an uglied up Nichole Kidman or Charlize Theron. They don't have to be perfect but what's the point?

I think the best picture of the year should have been either "Mystic River", "Master and Commander" or "21 Grams". FotR should have gotten all the Oscars, since RotK looked like TPM compared to them.

Damn is she annoying and I haven't seen any of her movies since Jerry McGuire

Plus when she's smiling it's like her whole face gets sucked into her eyes and they turn into little black lines. Just imagine that looke when she's in her 60s or 70s and still trying to glam up like Elizabeth Taylor does now.

She'll have this huge moon face and these tiny little slits for eyes.

The Michael Moore bit did make me laugh (loud enough to wake up the guy next door) and when it was announced LoTR as Best Film (and a clean sweep) i let out a big "wahoo", although this was a bit later as i fell asleep around "best song" and had to watch the last half an hour or so in this morning.

Every time I see pictures of her she looks like she's just had an allergic reaction to something, face all swollen and bloated and unmoving, eyes swollen shut...

You really ought to see Cold Mountain, I thought it was an excellent film, and her acting in it was certainly good enough to justify her award.
