The physiology of "KiLL BiLL"
Okay. Obviously there's the impossibly high blood pressure epidemic (blood spraying a meter in the air when someone's head or arm is taken off, etc.). But some other things I've noticed. When Uma Thurman fights the first of O-Ren's bodyguards, she impales one (a grown man) and lifts him above her head on her sword before throwing him about two meters into a pool of water. One other thing (although it's in the trailer and may not be part of the second movie either) - the guy who manages to levitate on top of her sword. How's that done? And last but not least...the drastic decrease in heart rate that the bride seems to cause in herself when Buck and his john come in to talk about selling her body. She's awake, and the monitor is beeping pretty damned fast, and when they approach she lies back down and within about two seconds her heartrate has cut in half according to the monitor.
Anyone care to work on a unified theory of "KiLL BiLL" physiology?

Actually it's primarily based on 70s HK films.Shinova wrote:It's based on an anime or a manga isn't it? That would explain all.
To answer the OT: It's called dramatic license.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

The first several are impossible.
However, very fit people CAN control their heart-rates, even lowering them to otherwise impossible levels. I have heard reports of heart-rates for top-athletes can get as low as six or eight beats per minutes, and that this dramatically increases their athletic abilities, however it is also VERY hard to train your body to do, and so for most of us it is impossible.

Lance Armstrong's resting heartrate is below 40 beats per minute, so he could theoretically bump it up to 80 beats per minute through various means and then let it settle back down. But such a rapid decrease in heartrate is probably out of the question.

Some yogis can outright stop their own hearts at will. I don't think such rapid heart decrecreases are physiologically impossible, just highly unusual and would require significant amounts of training.Darth Wong wrote:Lance Armstrong's resting heartrate is below 40 beats per minute, so he could theoretically bump it up to 80 beats per minute through various means and then let it settle back down. Basically I'm wondering what differences there would have to be between real world human physiology and KB physiology. The sword-lifting thing is just freakin' fantasy unless the Bride is far stronger for her weight than anyone else in the movie.
Or unless the swords have subspace coils that mass-lighten anything the blade touches.
That really is a Hattori Hanzo sword...

Yes, yes, "KiLL BiLL" does with chop-socky what "Seinfeld" did with the sitcom. Simultaneously spoofs and masters the genre. I loved it. The question is just an exercise to see what silly bullshit excuses we can come up with.Daltonator wrote:Jeez. Sometimes movies are meant to be completely unrealistic. Look at Eurotrip. Funny as hell, made zero logical sense. Kill Bill is an orgy of black humor and blood and death, nothing more, and it's pretty cool at that.
UT's harnessed the power of the element known as 'Dramatium', which enables her to do things just because they look darn cool.

That's called "Ching(light) gung" which has been exaggerated in the Wuxia movies.Metrion Cascade wrote: One other thing (although it's in the trailer and may not be part of the second movie either) - the guy who manages to levitate on top of her sword. How's that done?

Wanna see a unified theory? Go watch HK martial arts films, especially the ones with a medieval backround.

This would be the same movie physics that let Bruce Lee punch a man so hard he went through a fence just like Tom&Jerry, with an outline including fingers!

It's a mixture of lots of stuff, ranging from blaxploitation to anime to HK to spaghetti westerns.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Actually it's primarily based on 70s HK films.Shinova wrote:It's based on an anime or a manga isn't it? That would explain all.

Basically anything QT wanted.
About the physiology, there's also an insane amount of blood that spews from wounds. High blood pressure?

Theres a fine line between cool and ludicrous, and its only seperated by the social status of the person making the action.
a small example would be Bob marley does i shot the sherrif ... gets nothing for it. Big time respected guitar god Eric clapton covers it, He wins a grammy.
( also applies to trent reznor & jonny cash )
It all depends on how you view whos doing what. These days, hardly anything is taken at face value of appearance - if it was then everyone would be venerated for everything.

Nitpick: I wouldn't say primarily; it's got just as much Jack Hill, Sergio Leone, Seijun Suzuki, and Takeshi Kitano in it, not to mention the 80s/90s John Woo movies it's inspired by.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Actually it's primarily based on 70s HK films.Shinova wrote:It's based on an anime or a manga isn't it?
