Of course.

Beware though, lycanthropes are ostracized heavily if their nature is revealed.

Dahak-Starting gold is the amount stated in the DMG, and no item you buy can cost more than 80,000 gold.

Okay, here are the races/templates allowed for your characters (only inlcuding ones with a level adjustment):
-Half-dragon (any variety)
-Half celestial
-Half fiend
-Vampire
-Lycanthrope (wereboar, werebear, werewolf, and wererat)
-Drow
-Svirneblin (AKA Deep Gnomes)
-Duergar (AKA Gray Dwarves)
-Illithid (However, an illithid can only be a psion.)
-Satyr
-Minotaur
-Hobgoblin
-Ogre
-Giant
-Air, Fire, Earth, and Water Gensai.
-Tieflings and Aasimar.
Note: While I'm not disallowing anyone to play some of the more fearsome races such as an illithid, remeber, mind flayers are reviled on the surface, and most goverment's will go through alot of pain to track down and kill one.

Well there's always the real trick to level adjustment templates. Your hit dice are going to suck.

Numbers man, numbers. BAB, hit points, base saves, they all depend on quantity of hit dice. Personally I never go above a +2 level adjustment, but to each his own.

And since I never actually done a character based on a monster template, what do I watch out for? I guess I don't get the d12 HD as a sorcerer then?

No, no, no, and God no. The hit die increase for the half dragon template only increases racial hit dice, if any. Class HD are unaffected.

3.5, since I don't have the 3.0 rulebooks with me.

Oh good, means I won't have to rewrite from memory. For those of you who don't have 3.5, go here to download the 3.5 System Reference Document. Its free and perfectly legal under the Open Gaming License. The SRD is the complete core rules.

Human Paragon: Bonus Feat, Adaptive Learning(Concentration)(One skill of your choosing becomes a Class Skill to you always, and you gain a +2 Inherent bonus to it), Ability Score +2(Con)(Place a +2 in one ability score)

Spellfire Channeler: Drain Charged Item(Can absorb one use of limited use items per round as a single stored level. Fully drained items become nonmagical), Increased Storage 5(Can store up to 5x my Constitution score in levels of magical energy), Improved Healing(Each level of spellfire expended on healing heals 1d4+1 instead of 2 HP for healing myself or others), Weapon Focus(Spellfire)(Normaly bonuses to attack rolls for blasts), Rapid Blast 3(Up to three 'shots' per round of spellfire blasts, with normal -2 penalties for each one), Drain Permenant Item(Can shut down permenant magic items for 24 hours, gaining half the caster level in energy each time), Flight(Fly with perfect maneuverability at twice my land speed for 1 minute per level expended), Deflect Arrows(As the feat; does not require a hand free. Uses one level of energy per deflection), Crown Of Fire(Gain halo of Spellfire around self, sheds light as Daylight spell, grants damage reduction 10/+1, melts nonmagical weapons that strike, grants Spell Resistance 32. Costs 10 levels per round to maintain), Maelstrom of fire(Large blast covering 20-ft radius, dealing 1d6 damage per level expended.)

Spellfire Use: Can heal(2 HP per level by touch to self or others), Blast(Up to 400 ft ranged attack roll, deals 1d6 damage to target per level expended, no cap. Damage is half magical/half fire, so deals half damage to fire-resistant critters). Absorbing energy requries a Move-Equivalent action to prepare, then acts as a Rod Of Absorption until max capacity is reached.
