McDonald's Press Release 03/02/2004
McDonald's Media Response to Core Menu and Super Sizing
McDonald’s is focused on delivering an exceptional customer experience that includes a consistent and relevant menu, with a range of choices that support a balanced lifestyle.

To achieve this, we will have a national core menu in all US restaurants by the end of 2004. This core menu, which has been under development since 2002, simplifies our menu and restaurant operations, and provides a balance of choices for our customers. A component of this overall simplification, menu and balanced lifestyle strategy is the ongoing phase-out of the Super Size fry and the Super Size drink options (the drink size will only be available as a promotional option).

Our U.S. core menu was developed in 2002 and tested and finalized in 2003. Implementation began the first of January and we anticipate it will be completed by the end of 2004.

McDonalds is fucking retarded. This health food kick is fucking retarded...why would you go to McDonalds if you wanted health food? If you're a stupid fatass only because McDonalds serves supersized fries, you deserve to die.

It's a good thing that McDonalds tastes like shit compared to most other fast food, or I might actually be pissed off about this.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Hey, I have my problems with McDonalds but their fries are like an orgy in your mouth. They just phased out my favorite menu item. :(

What would make an exceptional customer experience is making good food, not making cheap cuts in size.

Sad news. Some would say that it's proof that McDonalds has caved to pressure to make its menu more healthful (not that McDonalds wasn't already the least healthful of the fast food chains.) I'd say that it's more that McDonalds is cheap and greedy (they've been trimming their portion sizes for years now,) and their workforce is inherently stupid. Wonder how long it'll be before the other fast-food chains implement this cost-saving strategy.

Interesting. I never Supersized anything anyway, so meh. But if they think this is going to be an effective market strategy, then I laugh.

Damn Right. The lack of personal reasonability in the United States will be its downfall.

Eighty-sixing the super sized drink is downright stupid. Their iced tea is actually really good, and comes best supersized.

In Canada from what ive read, its still the same size stuff but they just renamed them "large" instead of "supersized" i dont really care either way. I do realize McDonalds is certainly not the best of food but I still like it enough to get it now and then.

Actually, modern portion sizes are HUGE compared to what they were in the 1950s, or even when I was a kid. When I was a kid, the quarter pounder was considered a decent-sized burger even for an adult, and the Big Mac was considered quite large, hence the name. Now, a Big Mac looks puny, because everybody's offering big triple-burgers with thicker patties.

As for ranting about personal responsibility, yes, people have no judgement. Ideally, they would get good judgement. Does anyone have any other useless pie-in-the-sky solutions to the growing obesity problem? This one is getting old.

Get the exelent book:

Fat Land by Greg Critser.

There is the complete history of superzising and all other hidden stuff that makes you fat.

Great read and a book like that was the deciding factor for me to loose a lot of weight.

From 104kg to 78kg today :D

I don't think there is a solution to the obesity problem, if people aren't going to get good judgement. Not that that bothers me; people can do whatever they like to their bodies. The only real problem is when their children pick up their bad eating habits, but once again, what can be done about that?

Burger King aka Hungry Jacks is incredibly more fatty than anything Maccas has to offer. The whopper has something like 60+ grams of fat.

I would say Education, a better public awareness about what healthy food is.

A ban on all miracle cures, Stop lying to your self, eating too much food will make you fat. No matter if it’s the Atkins(sp?) diet or some other diet of the week.

And quit eating potato chips, soda and other high sugar low fibre stuff.

Stuff that works:

1. Eat Less
2. Exercise more

The US gov't is scared shitless by terrorism which seems odd when this problem kills far many every year and is readily available. I'm glad McDonalds is now getting raped over this. The time for the obese to get a clue and stop eating this junk is nigh.

IIRC what is currently the "large" at McDonalds was the "Super Size" back when they first started that stuff. The current "Super Size" drink and fries are just absolutely huge.

I'm wondering if they are going to bring back the "small" fries. Back when I was a kid they used to have a smaller fry (which was originally their only size) that came in a white paper pocket with the golden M on it. The large was the size that came in the carboard red thing, which then became the medium when they added the first large with the yellow band around the top edge. It was the first step towards super size.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
