I think it'd be very cool...

<imagines> a hot afternoon, soldiers sleeping outside their tanks, and then suddenly, THUMP-- 'Mechs jump-jet in... and ultimate smackdown!

a 'mech vs. an Abrams tank... hmm... *wonders if it's material for a vs. thread...*

Don't even think about a mech vs tank thread. For your own good.

Have a very nice day.

Been there, done that. Battletech is pitifully weak and would lose horribly to any modern (or even not-quite-so-modern) military of present-day Earth.

Forgive my ignorance, but didn't MechWarrior used to be called BattleTech? I never understood the name change..

Actually, Mechwarrior is what the Comp/console games are called. Battletech/Citytech is what the board game is called.

And you can blame all the problems on that, as each hex is thirty meters.

We'll finally have visuals to override the game mechanics. :D

I wonder what time period they'll be setting it in.

Well this wont be a serious Sci-Fi flick since Mechs are involved.

I heard the movie is going to be set in MW: Dark age timeline. This is bad news for fans if true.

So what happens if the movie has visuals showing Mechs taking hits from and kicking tank ass?

I suppose that will only make a difference within it's own continuity (universe).

How about they just make it a TV movie...wait a minute...I seem to recall a television show on YTV (Canada) where it was a couple of guys and one firl with Mech-like walkers...though considerably smaller. It was during that CGI animation craze back in the day, where all the new shows where done (poorly) in CGI, like ReBoot, and Beasties, and Shadow Planet, etc. I'm starting to rant, aren't I? :banghead:

Its from the mid-90s, and was called BattleTech, and it used CGI for the battle scenes.

Actually MechWarrior was orignally a pen-and-paper RPG set in the BattleTech Universe. From what I understand, you can use the board game(s) interchangeably with the RPG for combat.

Thr MechWarrior computer games are closer to the MechWarrior RPG then the original BattleTech game, so thats why they used the name. Their was a BattleTech strategy computer game in the early 90s and a console game for the Sega Genesis and SNES (Not the original MechWarrior, which also came out for the SNES).

And of course, the MechWarrior computer games were a huge success, so when they made a new BattleTech startegy game, they called it MechCommander instead.

The cartoon was made in 1993. It was called Battletech : The animated series.

It was a great cartoon focusing on the clan invasion of the inner sphere. Unfortunately it was canceled after just 13 episodes.

Are you talking about ExoSquad? Not sure if it was CGI, but that one did have walkers, and some of the later Exosuits were Mech sized (and were similar too, I think).

It was the one where humans had geneered a slave race (Neo Sapians - Neos), and the Neos had finally had enough, and revolted (with a large war machine).

Of course, I am forgetting a lot, so feel free to Google ExoSquad for yourselves.
