What I've done during my spring vacation

Post by Beowulf »

or, the last 7 weeks of Basic Military Training.

I've been yelled at, often.
I've done I don't know how many push-ups.
I've marched god knows how many miles.
I've folded my t-shirts into 6 inch wide rectangles.
I've made sure my bed is tight, neat, and wrinkle free.
I've not even touched a computer.
I've eaten MREs and hot A-rations.
I've fired an M-16.
I've run the confidence course, without getting wet.

I've marched down the bomb run.
I've finally gotten to leave the base.
I've packed my duffel bag.

Everywhere we go
People want to know
Who we are
So we tell them
We're not the Army
Ground pounding army
We're not the Navy
Deck swabbing Navy
We're not the Marine Corp
Jarhead Marine Corp
We are the Air Force
Mighty, mighty Air Force.

Don't you know? When you're in basic, girls are a dim fantasy... something often heard of, but never seen; venerated nonetheless, for all that! :D
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Girls: Look, but don't touch, unless you feel like spending a really long time in Basic. Also, my Girlfriend would have killed me.

Also, I have to get going again. See y'all again when I can use a computer again...

And the Marines say Air Force guys are a bunch of lazy, wimpy desk-jockeys. They should be ashamed. :P
Don't hate; appreciate!

We he went through was not nearly as bad as what I had to endure. You see, I went through Lackland during July and August. January, February, and March were probably paradise.

So, did you enjoy Scorpion's Nest and the Confidence Course?

EDIT: And uh, where are you headed to next, and for what AFSC will you be training?

Never heard the version were you quantify who you're not before you get to who you are.

Congratulations on finishing basic though. Got to love that clothes folding and bed making stuff. :)

I haven't done my military stage yet, and I hope that I'll manage to avoid it till 2007 when it's supposed to stop being mandatory( hope I choosed the right words  ).

And just think you went through two weeks less than the Navy, five of the marines and even a week less than the Coast Guard :D

Aside from the rain, Lackland was pretty good. I'd hate to be there during the summer. I know about the heat. Scorpion's Nest was fairly enjoyable, except for the MREs. Beef Patty is nasty. The Confidence Course was fun, but I didn't get a chance to run some of the obstacles. On the other hand, I did manage to avoid falling into any of the water obstacles.

I'm now at Keesler. 12 hour bus rides are fun... I'm going to start training in Comp Prog, hopefully this Monday.

I've noticed that the Air Force has a tendency to not count in-processing week as part of the time. Officially basic is 6 weeks, but they don't count 0 week. My tech school is 10 weeks, but that doesn't include inprocessing or out processing.

And thanks for the congratulations. Can't wait until I can get some leave and visit my GF...

They let you look? Man, I know at least in the Marines, that's one of the Twelve Deadly Sins, at least according to the DIs.

*slaps self in head* Oh, wait, you do co-ed training don't you? Whoops, I forgot the Marines are the only ones still doing it seperate, IIRC.

Anyway, glad you "survived" Summer Camp...er, Air Force Basic Training. Geez, six weeks? I guess it evens out though, since most of your tech schools seem to be so damn long.

And that cadence is certainly different than from when I hear it. The going through who you're not is kinda dependent on who does it, but I never heard "Jarhead Marine Corps" before. I always hear it like this:

"We're not the Ma-rines!
We don't even look mean!"
