The Darkness and the Light
Chapter Twelve: Demon of Darkness
Eran screamed in pain as his body was suddenly covered in red lightning from the lightsaber. He tried to throw the artifact to the ground, but it clung to his hand, like a living thing. Suddenly, a burst of red light shot skyward, tearing through the temple like a turbolaser.
.........
Miles away, in the Jedi Academy, Kelly Antilles suddenly felt a wave of darkness and spun to face the temple where she'd faced Eran. The sky around it was darkening, and it was being his by dozens of crimson lightning blots. Reaching out, she touched Eran's mind and felt his panicked fright. Forgetting his earlier threat to her, he tried to reach out and anchor his mind to hers. Suddenly, it slammed off as a steel curtain seemed to drop between their two minds.
...........
Around the temple, the screaming slowly faded as the lightning abated and the sky lighted. Deep inside, Eran was looking at the new saber like it had grown a head. "Did it work?" Exar asked.
"Yes," answered two voices. One was Eran's, the other was…not. "I have infested this human's body."
"How long until you have complete control?"
"Perhaps a day."
"Then we must move quickly."
...........
Meanwhile, inside the Dark Blade, Klaine had just finished attaching a small device to the back of Andryw's neck. "There. That should keep the adrenaline rush to a minimum. Now, you'll be able to concentrate in battle, instead of slashing without being aware of yourself."
Andryw reached back and touched the small device. "Thanks, Klaine. This should really help me improve." That was when the massive lightning storm began. "What the?" Andryw yelled as the two ran outside to see a black sky torn apart by crimson lightning bolts.
"Hey!" yelled Souran as he and Lora ran over from the jungle edge. Lora's shirt was a bit rumpled, and Klaine delivered one fireball of a glare. "What's going on?" Souran continued.
"How should I know?" Andryw yelled over the thunder. IG-99 came running from the cockpit.
"Iggy!" Souran yelled. "What's happening?"
"I don't know," the droid said. Suddenly, the lightning stopped, and the sky turned blue again.
"Where are Eran and Exar?" IG-99 asked as he scanned the area.
"Inside I think-yeah, here they come now," Souran said, pointing to the temple entrance. Eran came out first, a predatory smile on his face. Exar came out looking neutral.
"Change of plans, everyone," Eran announced in a voice that was not his own. It was more like a rattling hiss. "We're going to attack the Academy."
"Eran?" Souran said. "I thought you said-"
"Quiet, Souran. Never question me." Souran shut up and gulped. This wasn't Eran. "Now then, we'll go, wipe them out, and leave. Without the Jedi, the New Republic will crumble, and we'll be in the perfect position to take control." Souran gaped. This wasn't like Eran! He was never after power, just his friends' well-being. Quickly glancing around, Souran assessed the situation. IG-99 was unreadable, as usual. Andryw looked excited. Klaine and Exar were obviously on the not-Eran's side, and Lora would follow Klaine.
Better play along for now,he thought. After a few minutes, the seven of them started on their way...to war.
..................
An hour later, the seven of them entered the clearing in which the Jedi Academy lay. Several apprentices saw them, as well as Kelly, who was standing on the roof. Leaning on the railing, she looked directly at Eran, who raised his arms and floated up to her. "Nice to see you again, Antilles."
"What are you?" she asked.
Eran laughed sadistically. "Not 'who.' You're intelligent for a human." She bristled. "Now, now, watch that temper of yours, girl. Otherwise you might find yourself in deep trouble."
"What are you?"
"I am Ulyaoth, a demon made completely out of dark side energy." Kelly gasped. Her master, Aulduin, had told her a story about Ulyaoth, but had made it sound like a simple story. "Heh. I see you've heard of me, Antilles."
"Yes," she said. "My master told me about you. You're a creation of Naga Sadow's, who was experimenting with dark side energy."
"I also worked with Exar Kun during the Sith War. At the end, my spirit was trapped inside an object. Then this fool came and released me."
Kelly lit her lightsaber and held it up by her face. "I swear. Whatever you've done to Eran, I'll get rid of you. I can't let you hurt anyone else."
"Well!" Ulyaoth said, lighting his own saber. Not Eran's saber, Kelly realized. "Big words! I hope you have the guts to back them up, little girl." He rushed her with a low cut, attempting to slice her legs off. She leapt up and swung at him, but he dove forwards and rolled, then leaned over the railing. "Why are you just standing there?" he shouted down to the others. "Get them!" Instantly, the six darksiders lit their sabers and charged the Jedi. Eran-or rather, Ulyaoth-shot Kelly a sadistic look. "Now, you can watch while your beloved Jedi are torn apart."
Kelly reached into a pocket and pressed a button. "I don't think so."
..............
They ran out of the hangar, firing. Their black steel skin glinted in the sunlight. Their massive, blaster cannon hands spat fire. Five Balmorran SD-10 soldier droids, stationed at the Academy ever since the Second Imperium's attack, thundered their way onto the battlefield and were confronted by the darksiders. One took a shot at Exar, but the man swung his lightsaber like a baseball bat, sending the bolt back to hit the droid in the sensor eye, knocking it back and out of commission. Klaine and Lora took the next one together, scything their lightsabers through its midsection, slicing it completely in half.
The third ran straight for Souran and took a swing at him, but Souran caught the massive blaster that replaced the droid's hand. He then proceeded to leap up, plant both feet on the droid's chest, and tear off the arm. The droid then pointed its other arm at him and a miniconcussion missile flew out. Souran bent backwards and the missile flew over him. He then launched himself forward, drew his lightsaber, and whacked the droid's head off. As he landed, he looked to see where the missile had ended up, and cried out! IG-99, who'd been slicing up the fourth of the droids, hadn't seen the missile coming and was hit in the back. Now, his armor was compromised, and blue bolts of electricity ran over him as he jerked spasmodically, his servos malfunctioning.
