Woman tries to cash Million Dollar bill

Post by The Kernel »

CNN
CNN wrote:COVINGTON, Georgia (AP) -- A Georgia woman who tried to use a fake $1 million bill to buy $1,675 worth of merchandise at Wal-Mart was arrested, and police later found two more of the bills in her purse.

The U.S. Treasury does not make $1 million bills, but similar-looking currency is sold in some souvenir shops. The fake bill featured a picture of the Statue of Liberty, police said.

"It looks real, but of course there's nothing real about this," said Stacey Cotton, police chief in Covington, about 30 miles southeast of Atlanta. "People do crazy things all the time."

A store clerk immediately noticed the bill was fake when 35-year-old Alice Regina Pike handed it to her on Friday, Cotton said.

Pike then tried to use two gift cards worth only $2.32 to buy the merchandise, but when that did not work she again asked to cash the $1 million bill, Cotton said. The store then called police.

Pike was jailed on forgery charges. A woman who answered the phone at the jail said she did not know if Pike has a lawyer.
Did this lady really think that this was going to work? I think it is time for the state of Georgia to revise their minimum required education standards.

Obviously she's too stupid to know that the next one up from $100 is the $1,000,000,000,000 bill.

Yeah, but Fidel Castro has it now.

Anyway, I'd say this story is almost as dumb as the one with the $200 bill, only because it was an even more blatant counterfeit.

What denominations do they make?

I'm almost positive there's $500, $1000, and $10000 bills, does anyone know?

I believe there were a handful of $100,000 bills printed.

Just found out that the $500, $1000, $5000, and $10,000 bills were taken out of production in 1969, but are still considered legal tender and may be found in general circulation.

The $100,000 bill circulated during the great depression and had Woodrow Wilson on it. It was only used in bank transfers, and not distributed to the general public.

A $1,000,000 bill was never made, and any found is a novelty item, not counterfeit, since you cannot counterfeit a bill which does not exist.

Interesting to note, $2 bills are still produced and circulated, and started a new series in 1996. As of 1999 there were over 500 million $2 bills in circulation.

I'm pretty sure I've used a few of those $2 bills before.

But I forgot who's face was on the bill.

I believe I have some from long before then. And it is Thomas Jefferson on the front.

As to the OT, that's just plane greedy. With a $500 or $1000 bill you could possible get away with it considering that most people have never seen one, but a $1000000 bill, WTF?

Nah, I saw pictures of her on the news. She was a brunette, but just plain looked like a stupid bimbo. She looked just smart enough to maybe think up doing something like this, but definately not smart enough to realize what an idiotic thing she was about to do.

And I second the raising of Georgia's educational standards.

Here is another interesting tidbit. I heard a story of a trucker who was pulled over and arrested by the police for something that was latter dismissed. He had on his posession a 1000 dollar bill. When he was cleared the police department tried handing him a check for 1000 dollars. He said he wanted his bill back (it dated to the 40s) and had more then monetary value. He was then told that would not be possible because the judge in the case had handed 10 franklins to the police and taken the bill. The trucker is now taking the case to court against the judge.

A HAB Arms Bazaar perhaps, though they tend to deal more in bulk diamonds and barrels of crude.

Even if she did, she couldn't possibly give back over $990,000 in change.

Why, with the recently introduced $4725.93 bill that only she has with Chris Kirkpatrick on the front, of course.
