Mel Gibson making hundreds of millions of dollars

Post by Col. Crackpot »

North American box office projections are now in the $400 million dollar range, with the international projection approaching twice that. Add in domestic and international video sales and rentals and the projected totals approach $2 billion. What is exciting studio execs more, is that this is bringing people who haven't been to a movie in years, back to the theater.

In other words, "Jesus 2: The Quickening" is already in the works. I'd love to get Foulwell and Robberson's reactions to this, they're probably mad as hell that Mel's outperforming them at fleecing the flock.

Gotta love capitalism.

It's a load of schmock anyway. Let him roll in the money. He's a fag anyway.

I believe it also now holds the distinction of being the most successful R-rated movie ever.

I don't know why everyone's so surprised. Look at the Christian Rock market. It's a perfect example of how utter shit with the word "Jesus" in it can make assloads of cash.

Yes, it's number 104.

I thought the Left Behind series' main message was that The Antichrist will have a Russian accent? :?

(OK, I've never read any Left Behind books or even seen the movies they spawned... but were they written during the Cold War, I wouldn't be surprised)

Actually, the Left Behind books are fairly recent-- started publishing in about '97 or so, still coming out. The first few books were pretty good-- very gripping-- but after about #9 they started getting boring. Not much that can be said for them, really, except that they're fairly good actioners, if a bit dated in terms of technology-- and also, their expecting the end of the world to occur in about a year or two is just a bit off... hard to take it seriously when the date in there is 2003, and it's 2004!

But as books, they're okay, I'd say.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Nothing about this should come as a surprise. Catholicism has been a profoundly successful money-making scam ever since it was invented. Gibson is simply carrying on the Catholic tradition of using Christian religious beliefs and guilt to extract money from the mindless sheep, er- faithful believers.

1.While I do agree with you on the idea that the religion attracts mindless-following, I think it is good that he is making money and people are spending money. Isn't that good for the economy? As well, it is capitalism, so it just stands as a testament that it works even more.

2. I saw the movie a couple days ago. I cannot say I am religious, but I can say I liked the violence, jesus getting owned, and a day to go out to the movies! All around, for the appropriate age-levels, I think the moview was good, albeit about religion which is my least favorite genre. It would have been better if it were about like...a different type of mythology or something.

What irritates us is the absurd double-standard maintained by the idiot Christian sheep.

Stuff like Kill Bill is too violent, but suddenly make it worse and focus on the torture of a single man with little to no dramatic, literary, or artistic merit other than pandering to the from-infancy indoctrination in a particular brand of dogmaticism and it is suddenly wholesome. Hell, take your kids!

What's next? The as-of-yet untold story of Jesus going around breaking up random Roman aristocrats' orgies? Surely if the pornography goes on for twenty minutes, with a solid five dedicated thereafter to Christian right-wing masturbatory lecturing and scolding, than the hard anal is perfectly legit, right? Take your kids?

I don't have a problem with him for making money off of it. He took it to the studios, they thought he was making some pointless vanity project so they weren't interested, so he financed it himself and it paid off for him.
