Update: Aznar is blaming ETA, and a Canadian site called Jihad Unspun is reporting that an Islamic group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. I'm not sure how reliable they are, though.

With something like this, the death penalty may be irrelevant. If the body count keeps going up, they may not live to see a trial if they get caught.

Two missionary friends of mine were on vacation in Madrid before going back to a clinic in Afric. One of them was Best Man at my brother's wedding; he was on the subway and is now presumed dead.

apparently the same explosives as the eta usually uses was also used in this case. the arabic tapes could have been placed by the eta in order to make al qaida the scape goat.

Eta has always warned it's targets, claimed responsibility, and tries to attack only political and military targets. This is way different. If a tape from Al Qaeda is broadcast claiming responsibility..

ETA said last year that tourists were now legit targets to them, but you're right on the other counts. This does seem to have a more sinister feeling now.

its probably the same kind of explosives because there's only so many kinds you can get and the Basques probably sold them to the AQ's.
