Episode was "Gambit". Shields were up as I recall.
In the 2 cases I cite, shields were down. Reliant took far worse, and lived.

Are you sure the Reliant wasn't destroyed? How did it get back in the time loop if it wasn't?

Reliaint was never in the time loop
I'm referring to it in Wrath of Khan, where Kirk rips through the nacelle with phasers, then uses a torpedo to blow it right off.

And she kept on ticking! Seem TOS ships were made by Timex
And up until the Genisis wave was detected the Enterprise Crew acted like there was nothing to fear from the damaged ship even prepared to board the ship.

And don't forget the Constallation from "The Dommsday machine". If you look at it, you clearly see that it's nacelles are partly destroyed. But did the ship go boom? No.
I know the Empire is more advanced, but wouldn't they have difficulty "affecting repairs" (without captives to help them or the ability to communicate with intact computers using translator droids perhaps?) since the technology is so alien?
Likewise I think a few people are forgetting the original scenario is an ISD, not The Executor. ; )

And from that, Scotty was able to get impulse power back online, one phaser bank recharged, and restore the shields! (albeit temporarily)

"Of course, what would really happen is that in Game 7, with the Red Sox winning 20-0 in the 9th inning, with two outs and two strikes on the last Cubs batter, a previously unseen meteor would strike the earth, instantly and forever wiping out all life on the planet, and forever denying the Red Sox a World Series victory..."
The people who wrote TNG obviously drew their inspirations for the behaviour of high technology from Microsoft Windows 3.1. I know that's often said as a joke, but I'm serious. The computer is the technological apparatus with which the average person is most familiar (and which he is most likely to realize is a technological apparatus; most people have no idea how much high-tech gadgetry is in a modern automobile engine). Therefore, when attempting to write something about high-tech equipment which felt "realistic" to them, they no doubt drew inspiration from the behaviour of their computers.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.

It was just Scotty and two assistants doing the repairs also. You didn't need a whole crew of specialist engineers to get the job done.

Only to a certain point.
Enterprise-nil self destructed and burned up in the Genesis Planet's atmosphere,
Enterprise-C was destroyed by Romulans at Nerendra III (this ship really doesn't count when referring to character shields, since it appeared in only one episode and this was not the subject of a movie or series like the other Enterprises) .
Enterprise-D suffered warp core breach after battle with Klingon BoP, and saucer crashes on Veridian III. Ship is unsalvagable.
