Err why is the colour Green associated with Irish pride/nationalism ?
Why is red white and blue associated with US nationalism?

The association of green and Ireland far pre-dates the Catholic arrival on the island, though these days it's so strongly linked to Irish Cathlics that the Protestants wear orange. Indeed, if you're protestant, or have Irish protestant ancestory, you're supposed to wear orange, not green, on St. Pat's.

Actaully, when I was heavily involved with the Chicago Irish most of 'em didn't wear either color on St. Pat's - they wore brown or something and either hid from the drunken tourists or were in church (in Ireland, it's more religious and less a drunken revelry)

I don't know what Irish Jews wear on St. Pat's. When I did have the opportunity to ask one it sort of slipped my mind, being January.

Way back, both the Other Half and I used to play in a bagpipe band. Generally, the noise would keep the fool idiots at bay, but when you stopped playing you were at some risk. And then there was that asshole who once climbed up on a bar and poured green beer down my drone pipes -- but I digress.
