I'll tell you what's intense.

8v8 capture the flag in Hang Em High. All sniper rifles. One score wins.

It took twenty minutes.

Hell yeah. Massed warthog wars come a close second, unless some bastard realises that the things are easy meat for anyone with a plasma grenade and a little luck. :)

Real FPS gamers use things called "mice" and "keyboards," not console controllers. Get some console kiddies and PC players of similar skill on the same server and see who gets their asses whipped.

No shit.

The fact I was making is that most of the people who play HALO multiplayer religiously play it on X-Box, because throwing together a couple televisions and X-Boxes in a college dormitory is much easier than dragging over eight computers into the same room. It is a social event.

...ESPECIALLY not the X-Box controllers, which are the most unwieldy things ever made. The only controller suitable for FPS play, if you absolutely MUST do so, is the N64 controller.

The HALO demo's exceedingly poor performance on my computer put me off from ever buying the game. The graphics aren't even that good anymore. Stuff it.

How come you can put together two TVs on X-Box while you need 8 machines with the PC version?

I like the X-Box controllers, I prefer them over the PS2 controllers and especially over the flimsy GC controllers. As for the N64 controller, it has only one analogue stick which makes the view very limited.

I suppose you just have to get used to the controllers. My friend's (who all have other systems) hated them at first, but they got used to them quickly and now find them very comfortable. In my opinion, they're the best controller for an fps game short of a keyboard and mouse (which I find is only better because it's faster, not more comfortable).

Of course this kind of thing is all very subjective, so I don't expect very many people to agree with me.

Because each X-Box has 4 controllers, so the 8 players will have to share 2 TV screens. At college we rig up 2 projectors and big white sheets so we can have massive screens. It's really fun when your team mates and opponents are in the same room.

Hey genius, in a college dorm, you're generally on the same subnet, so you can leave your machines where they are and just set up a server. As for being a social event, I'd rather not cram 8 people into a typical dorm room in addition to two TV's.

Actually, I've found that, if I had to use a console controller for an FPS, it'd be the X-Box's. The N64 controller was the most god-awful piece of shit I've ever used, and the PS2's controller's joysticks just aren't as comfortable as the X-Box's. However, having to slowly pan my vision around to do a 180-degree turn was an inevitability on every controller.

I have long, thin hands, and I find that after a few minutes of trying to hit the X-Box's badly placed buttons I get cramps in the knuckle joints. Whereas I liked the N64's reach-around-and-grab theory with the middle wing of its controller. The trigger was comfortably placed and the grip gave me good control.

But you're not alone. A LOT of people thought the N64 was the most poorly designed of all consoles.

I thought the N64 controller was ok, certainly better than PSX's, but I think Xbox controller is the superior of them all right now. Although Keyboard and mouse is the best setup for FPS, I have no problems playing Halo on Xbox with a controller.

For Halo, if Bungie had actually kept and used the original PC build for the PC version, the graphics engine would have been quite inferior to what the Xbox version would have. PC users may have gotten smoother movement and less lag online, but you would have to put up with way older graphics since the original PC build was built to run with the lower end PC specs of 2001. I know for some this may not matter but for others it would.

Ditto. I have big hands, and I only have ever liked the X-Box and N64 controllers. I once broke a GC in half, just snapped it, by pulling too hard.

We would have had the game three fucking years ago if this were true and that would make the graphics excusable.

Captain Grammar Nazi to the rescue!

Now then, Little Billy, you should know that there is no such thing as "funner"! You mean to say, "it's so much more fun with the real thing"!

[/Captain Grammar Nazi]

Don't make me throw my arms back up the air again. Just accept the fact.

Especially since the X-Box version of HALO is the "real thing". [/Irony]

No, the real thing is the PC version, since it was originally developed for Mac and PC.

Ditto. Who the fuck cares about what PC users think of their superior mouse/keyboard combo? Halo on the Xbox works and is tons of fun; I don't need any other excuse to play it.

Agreed.

Sure a player using a keyboard/mouse combination would beat a player using an Xbox controller, but that doesn't happen, it's totally irrelevant. Who the fuck cares as long as it's fun?

Yes but that doesnt change the fact that the Xbox version would have been the superior of the two (aside from online play).

Xbox version is what is famous and loved by so many, Xbox version is what made all the money for Bungie and for Microsoft, Xbox version was superior to the original PC build in everyway save for online play, thats just the way it is. PC keyboard/mouse controls are better for FPS, but Halo is still great as it is on Xbox (just finished playing a game actually).

And thanks to Bungie shafting its original core fan base of Mac and PC players the X-Box version is still superior because Gearbox fucking left out options for the PC.

You expect me to say thank you? Microsoft and Bungie can fucking rot in hell.

Halo is a fucking Mac game that also is nice on PC. It was fucking stolen to the X-Box and then thanks to Bungie not giving a shit ported (fucking ported, not rebuilt) back to PC with some of the fucking options missing.

Get over it? Why the fuck should I get over getting the game three years late with options REMOVED. Three years ago the game would have had slightly worse graphics but would have had MORE options built into it.

Oh, didn't you realize they removed options when they put it on the X-Box? The Warthog was much different and the Convenant even had a counterpart.

Boo-Fucking-Hoo you little crybaby. You don't like the way Bungie conducts business? Too bad. Lots of us have seen our favorite game developers gutted, shutdown and mangled all so publishers can support more profitable licensed titles.

Bungie was neither mangled nor shut down and continues to make awesome games. You don't like the fact that it isn't everything you wanted it to be? TOO FUCKING BAD. Bungie didn't sign a contract with you to make the game you wanted, they decided to make the game they wanted, and they made a conscious decision to make it on the Xbox. If you don't like it, don't buy their games, but don't expect Xbox gamers who love the game to suddenly stop loving it just because Bungie burned some Mac/PC gamers on their way to making a fabulous title.
