Cool. A WH40K PC game that *looks* like it won't suck. I really hope they get this thing right because i've wanted a decent 40K game for so long now and they have all been crap so far. (havent tried Firewarrior yet, but I've heard only bad things about it)

Maybe, but I'd rather have Tyranids than Imperial Guard.

Saw the preview in PCG this month. They said the other two races would be current ones, nothing new, but I don't know anything beyond that.

Not much news there. I doubt they'll be introducing new races in a pc game.

They are introducing a new Space Marine Chapter, however. I'm sure the Orks are the primary enemy though.

Question- are the Orks from Warhammer 40K related to those in Warhammer? If so, how?

Warhammer fantasy and Warhammer 40K are completely separate universes IIRC.

Beyond the standard physical characteristics, the two are very different. 40k Orks are divided along clan lines(Goff's, Bad Moons, Deathskulls ect..) , while Warhammer Orcs are divided into only two catagories, Standard Orcs and Black Orcs.

Depends on who you ask. There's a lot of people who say that Warhammer takes place on a planet in the 40K galaxy.

Third Race will be Chaos, from what I understand.

Fourth Race will likely be Eldar or Imperial Guard.

From the screenshot those are Ultramarines, the poster boys for Space Marines. I suppose it's possible they will be creating a new Chapter or fleshing out one but from the looks of it it's the Bitches in Blue.

The single players campaign is centered entirely on the new Chapter.

God, I'm in love. Does anyone know if relic plans to release additional races as expansion packs? Tau, Necrons and Tyranids would be awesome to play.

I hope the troop types for all sides can be edited, and added to. So you can develop a new unit for one side, and see how it does. Give human and computer access to it, and it will be interesting what strategies both come up with to use.

For Necron troops, it will be interesting. If they are defeated (assuming a strategy game), they will reappear at a Pyramid, slowly regenerating losses. If the Necrons lose all their Pyramids, they cannot get any new troops. Existing troops can (and should) try to return and recapture it though.

Tyranids would get additional supplies depending on the terrain.

Tau would be anime style all the way, with lots of missiles.

"Sir, we spotted a Tau squad, permission to engage?"
"Kill them."
"Incoming!!!!"

Well, that's shit. I think having a progression from fantasy to 40K style shit would be awesome.

Can someone tell me, what exactly are the origins of Chaos Marines, and how are they related to the Space Marines of the Imperium?

Sit and listen, as i pass the story of the Horus Heresy down to you...

No, seriously, way back when, the Emperor started to rebuild the Human race from the dark ages. He created the Space Marine Legions to serve as his soldiers, and the Patriarchs were created as his generals.

Well, eventually a handfull were corrupted by Chaos, along with a goodly portion of the Imperial Guard and Navy. Lead by a Patriarch named Horus, they tried and failed to take over the galaxy. After Horus's death and their defeat, they became the Chaos Marines and fled to the Eye Of Terror--a huge vortex in space where space/time overlap with the Warp.

And that's it basically.

Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines both orginate from the same basis, the only difference is that Chaos Space Marines turned to Chaos.

Basically, the Emperor (being a god and all) decided to create some super warrior children to assist him in the coming Crusade to free humanity. Those children would be the Primarchs (not Patriarchs!) and there were twenty of them. As developing children they got snatched by Chaos and scattered, partially foiling the Emperor's plans. They survived but were isolated from the Imperium, they survived and propsered.

Back on Earth, the Emperor went ahead with the next best option. Using gene-seed (essentially genetic samples) from the vanished Primarchs to create the orginal First Founding Space Marine Legions, one Legion per Primarch. The test subject was implanted with a variety of artificial organs and genetically altered into a super human being. All in all, the Legions tended to have some of the distinctive qualities of their Primarch. It's with these superhuman Space Marines that he launched the Great Crusade.

Eventually the Crusade found each of the Primarchs in turn and assigned them the Legion that was created from their gene-seed. The Great Crusade continued and they stomped aliens, Chaos-worshipper and any one that gave them crap. Horus, the Primarch of the Lunar Wolves Legion was the foremost of the Primarchs and the favored of the Emperor. Eventually owing to his sucesses he was named Warmaster (and the Lunar Wolves renamed the Sons of Horus) and was the Emperor's favored son.

40K being 40K, Horus was eventually corrupted by the Chaos Gods and turned on the Imperium along with eight of the other Legions. The whole of the Empire was ripped apart by war, nearly ever organization split. Eventually after a lot of battles the whole thing came down to the Imperial Fists and Blood Angels standing against the combined Traitor Legions in defense of the Imperial Palace (which was essentally a continent size fortress) and the Emperor himself. The whole things was decided in single combat, the Emperor slaying Horus but being mortally wounded in turn. The Traitor Legions collapsed, the Emperor went into the Golden Throne, and the Imperium went about picking up the peices.

The Traitor Legions retreated into the Eye of Terror and became the first of the Chaos Space Marines, subsequently some Marine Chapter have gone over to Chaos. And of course the old Chaos Legions do some what grudgingly add new Marine-recruits into it's ranks.

The Loyalists Marines had their Legions (10K+) reduced into Chapters (1-5K) producing the now familiar Chapters. Each of the present Chapters is successor (meaning created with the gene-seed of) one of the orginal Legions (with the supposed exception of the Grey Knight, the Inquisition's home grown Marine chapter). Some don't know which they're descended from though.

Loyal Legions

Dark Angels (okay, some supposedly turned but the bulk were loyal)
Primarch Lion El'Jonson
Blood Angels
Primarch Sanginius
Space Wolves
Primarch Leman Russ
Imperial Fists
Primarch Rogal Dorn
Ultramarines
Primarch Guilliman
White Scars
Primarch Jangtai Khan
Salamanders
Primarch Vulkan
Raven Guard
Primarch Corvax
Iron Hands
Primarch Ferrus Manus

Presumably the two other First Founding Legions remained loyal but unlike the Salamanders and Raven Guard, who narrowly escaped total annihilation, were massacred to the last man in the Betrayal at Istaavn IV (?).

Traitor Legions

Black Legion (they changed their name yet again after Horus was slain)
Primarch Horus
Iron Warriors
Primarch Peturabo
Emperor's Children
Primarch Fulgrim
Thousand Sons
Primarch Magnus the Red
Word Bearers
Primarch Lorgar
World Eaters
Primarch Aragon
Alpha Legion
Primarch Alpharius
Death Guard
Primarch Mortain
Night Lords
Primarch Konrad Kruze better known as Night Haunter

That answer your question?

i always thought that´s how it is since the fantasy WH has a lot of stuff in common with 40K. for example the same chaos gods such as tseentch and slanesh, the warp, chaos and all that other stuff.
