You expect me to say thank you? Microsoft and Bungie can fucking rot in hell.
Meh, couldnt care less. *goes back to playing awsome Xbox Halo while thanking Bungie for such a great game*

Although I am curious as to what "options" the Xbox version has but the new PC version doesnt have. IIRC the new PC version has MORE options like the Fuel rod cannon and stuff like that.
Oh, didn't you realize they removed options when they put it on the X-Box? The Warthog was much different and the Convenant even had a counterpart.
It was probably for the better in terms of game balance issues and programming at the time. Too many vehicles adds complexity and a lot more debugging to work on perfecting the vehicles and making sure each side is relatively balanced. I have no problems with the way the warthog or other vehicles turned out in the Xbox version. (would have been cool to pilot the Covie mortar tank but it really doesnt matter anyways since the game is still great as it is)

Bungie was neither mangled nor shut down and continues to make awesome games. You don't like the fact that it isn't everything you wanted it to be? TOO FUCKING BAD. Bungie didn't sign a contract with you to make the game you wanted, they decided to make the game they wanted, and they made a conscious decision to make it on the Xbox. Kiss my ass you Bungie apologist.

And what awesome game? All I got to play was a game released three years late using two year old graphics with a pitiful optimization for high end machines.

My whole fucking point is Bungie pissed on a core fanbase and it has cost them. I am seriously considering never buying Halo 2 because of how they fucked up Halo. Course I am also pissed with Microsoft, not that I've bought any of their programs for a long time now.

Your awesome Console game is but average on the PC. What a thing to brag about.

Oh yay! They tossed us a new fucking gun and vehicle to make up for not including the single biggest element of replayability! Coop is a fucking big thing to be without. A dozen new guns and vehicles doesn't begin to make up for not having coop.

Those issues were already fucking solved! They got yanked because the game was dumbed down for the X-Box version because of the lack of controls inherient in a console.

That only happened because you were too stubborn to buy it on Xbox back in 2001. It was your choice to miss out.
My whole fucking point is Bungie pissed on a core fanbase and it has cost them. I am seriously considering never buying Halo 2 because of how they fucked up Halo. Course I am also pissed with Microsoft, not that I've bought any of their programs for a long time now.

Lost them and gained a new group in the process. I highly doubt they have less fans now than they did before. Its your choice and your loss to miss out on Halo 2 if thats what you want. Meanwhile millions of others will be laughing at you from their couches this fall when it comes out.
Your awesome Console game is but average on the PC. What a thing to brag about.
Its excellent on console format which is all that matters to me. If I want to play PC FPS there is more than enough of those to satisfy me.

That was likely a business decision so that sales of the Xbox version wouldnt slow. A very smart manuever on their part, I probably would have done the same. Although I admit it is unfortunate that the online play for PC is so glitchy, if it wasnt than that would make up for replayability. Even still, I play halo singleplayer all the time because you can do things differently everytime you play, so their is still lots of replayability even without co-op.

Im sorry but I'm gonna have to ask you for proof on that. But even still, it was and still is an awsome game, no sense in worrying about the wouldda shouldda couldda's anymore, especially with Halo 2 just around the corner.

"Shaft" isn't the word. Not only did Halo get canned for Mac and PC in favor of the X-Box, but it came out years later for the PC when it arguably should've been a relatively clean and quick port job. And when that port gets there, it's got such incredibly shitty optimizations that hardware which can run better-looking games just fine gets brought to its knees by Halo. So PC users got a little more than just shafted.

Mac users, on the other hand, got fucked up the ass. Not only did Halo originally debut on a Mac, but Bungie owes its current status to its Mac fanbase. Who the Hell do you think bought the Marathon trilogy? Pathways into Darkness? Minotaur? That's right. Mac users, because those were Mac-only titles. And Halo comes to Mac not just last, but far behind the PC version.

Add to that the fact that they sold out to Microsoft to develop the promised "game to end all games" exclusively for Microsoft's upcoming console, effectively sending the Mac port into a purgatory of doubt and delays, and you've got a pissed off core fan base. And, to top it off, Halo runs like shit on anything but über-high-end Mac hardware, and there's not even a fucking Mac demo. And Bungie is actually surprised that Mac users are pirating Halo like crazy? It certainly isn't worth the $50 they want for it. I'm going to pay $50 for a game that will barely run on my hardware that I've already played on the X-Box and PC by the time it makes it to the Mac? Yeah, right guys.

Bungie stuck themselves in a lose-lose scenario with PC and Mac gamers. Either they release low-quality, bullshit ports after years and get everyone pissed off that it runs like shit after such long development time, or they don't release it at all and piss everyone off for breaking their word.

So you'll excuse me for being a little pissed that probably the best game company on the planet got turned into a Microsoft money-making pawn.

They can keep their pathetic console version for all I care. I want the PC version that was fucking promised.

You fucking idiot. Halo on the X-Box is fucking winding down. The PC version was released two fucking years later when it was blindingly obvious that the people who hadn't bought the X-Box to get Halo weren't going to bother buying the X-Box to begin with. The reason coop didn't get included is because Bungie refused to support Gearbox on the issue. Gearbox was faced with porting over splitscreen coop to the PC, or no coop at all. As it stands Gearbox is working on getting coop over as we speak with a future patch.
Im sorry but I'm gonna have to ask you for proof on that. But even still, it was and still is an awsome game, no sense in worrying about the wouldda shouldda couldda's anymore.
An awesome game? Its not the same fucking game that was promised and it had a fucking lot of its options removed. Excuse me while I vomit at your statement.

Better than waiting 3 whole years for it like you did. Plus you get the best console on the market anyways. Its not like Xbox doesnt have a good selection of games besides Halo.

You can want it, but yer never gonna get it bwahahahah!

Good so we're in agreement then. :P

Its been everything and more than what I was promised (or new about at least). Its unfortunate you didnt get what you want but theirs nothing you can do about it anymore and constantly whining about it just makes you look foolish anyways.

I agree that you have a reason to be angry about it, but that is the simple politics of the situation. Microsoft needed a killer title for the Xbox launch and Halo was a victim of its own success. I feel bad about it, but it's hard for me to feel too bad since I own both a PC and an Xbox. ;)
The Marathon titles, excellent as they were, came out at a much different time in the Mac gaming history. Today I'm afraid that the Mac is simply not a viable platform for serious gaming. The hardware is there, but the software support is almost non-existant. Do I think this is unfair? Absolutely. Do I think there is a snowball's chance in hell of things changing? No.
Add to that the fact that they sold out to Microsoft to develop the promised "game to end all games" exclusively for Microsoft's upcoming console, effectively sending the Mac port into a purgatory of doubt and delays, and you've got a pissed off core fan base. You have every right to be upset about the Mac/PC version of Halo. You do not have the right to be pissed at Xbox users for enjoying what is an excellent title however. I'm well aware of the problems with the PC version of Halo which is why I didn't buy it. However, that doesn't mean I enjoy the Xbox version any less.
Bungie stuck themselves in a lose-lose scenario with PC and Mac gamers. Either they release low-quality, bullshit ports after years and get everyone pissed off that it runs like shit after such long development time, or they don't release it at all and piss everyone off for breaking their word.
Hate Microsoft if you want, they are mostly to blame for this. Halo was such a huge success on the Xbox that Microsoft didn't want their premiere title losing its exclusiveness status until sales dropped off significantly. That is the sole reason Halo was delayed for so long.
So you'll excuse me for being a little pissed that probably the best game company on the planet got turned into a Microsoft money-making pawn.
Excused, but please remember that you don't have to bash people that enjoy what is an excellent Xbox game simply because you are pissed at the Mac translation. It sucks, we all agree on that, so lets just move on m'kay?

Too bad you didn't own an Xbox. I'm sorry that you didn't get to play it the way it was intended, but that's not my problem. I still enjoyed what is universally considered an excellent title on the Xbox.
My whole fucking point is Bungie pissed on a core fanbase and it has cost them. I am seriously considering never buying Halo 2 because of how they fucked up Halo. Course I am also pissed with Microsoft, not that I've bought any of their programs for a long time now.
Good, that is precicely what you should do in this situation. But don't bitch to me that the game I enjoy sucks because you didn't like the fact that you got a piss poor port. It's a shame for you, but it doesn't in any way diminish the excellence of the Xbox version of Halo.

If you fucking X-Box players would stop masturbating to the fucking game and stop expecting us to like the whole situation (some have even said that PC players should be grateful for the bone that was thrown our way), then maybe the PC players wouldn't be quite so hostile. We lost our game and were still in mourning. Then a X-Box player comes in wanking off to their version and is surprised when the PC players want to rip out his throat and drink the blood.

Since you didn't even bother read the whole thread, I was trying to give the PC version some semblance of defense. Then the X-box wanking began and I let them have it.

Lets see. FPS games? I'd rather get fucked up the ass with a spear. RPG? I don't fucking play them. Racing games? No. Simulations? I only play the space ones, ones a Console can't handle. Strategy? You got it, and Consoles can't do Strategy worth a damn. Sports? I'd rather eat broken glass.

So you see, I haven't got a fucking reason to play a console.

Still in morning two years later? I think you really need to get a life.

As for the Halo wanking, I think you'll find that most Xbox users love several games on the Xbox right now; Halo is by no means the only excellent title. I particularly have been enjoying Panzer Dragoon Orta and Ninja Gaiden as of late, and I'm looking forward to Fable, Sudeki and Halo 2 in the near future. Not exactly the one game console that you make it out to be is it?

There might be other games out there, but talking with X-Box fans wouldn't lead you to believe that. Its Halo this and Halo that and Halo fucking rules. Then there is the whole "Why not waste $300 to play it on X-Box?" crap. This thread is full of X-Box Halo wanking. "Nya! Look at us X-Box players with a superior title! :p You poor pathetic PC players who won't even buy a X-Box". See how you like it when your mocked for not buying the X-Box.
Are you done fucking grandstanding yet?
Are you done jacking off to the X-Box?

Oh gee, that was real useful. You tell me to blow my fucking money on a console and when I point out how much a bloody waste that is this is all you can say? I have no fucking reason to get the damned thing. As bad as the PC version of Halo is, its a hell of a lot better then the shitty version you got.

Aparently no one has ever told you that the Xbox's price is $179.
Are you done jacking off to the X-Box?
If you weren't such a close minded asshole, perhaps you would realize that BOTH platforms have their strengths. Maybe you should take a look in the mirror before you label someone as a fanboy.

I have no fucking reason to get the damned thing. As bad as the PC version of Halo is, its a hell of a lot better then the shitty version you got.
If you can't find a single type of game on consoles that you like, then I am forced to conclude that you are simply a diehard PC fanboy asshole who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

Get this through your head you dense motherfucker: BOTH THE PC AND THE XBOX/PS2/GAMECUBE HAVE LOADS OF WORTHWHILE GAMES. TO DENY AN ENTIRE PLATFORM OF ITS LEGITIMACY IS TO BE A CLOSE MINDED FANBOY.

To get the X-Box with Halo and to have bought it years ago to avoid the whole "Well you wouldn't have had to wait two years had you bought it back..." I summed it up at $300.

Are you fucking stupid or something? Those strengths have absolutely no fucking meaning to me since I don't play those fucking games.

Kernel, I'm not angry at X-Box players for enjoying Halo; I'm angry at Bungie for fucking their fanbase up the ass and sullying their reputation as a company that put its fans first. They sold out to Microsoft. That's not just the business reality of putting money above all; it's sacrificing fans on the altar of massive profit. I wouldn't have cared if they'd done something, anything else to keep themselves afloat, but selling out to Microsoft was just fucking low and a slap in the face to the people that got them to where they were.
The Kernel wrote:The Marathon titles, excellent as they were, came out at a much different time in the Mac gaming history. Today I'm afraid that the Mac is simply not a viable platform for serious gaming. The hardware is there, but the software support is almost non-existant. Do I think this is unfair? Absolutely. Do I think there is a snowball's chance in hell of things changing? No.
I'm sorry, but are you on mind-altering drugs? I can't think of anyone who would actually claim that 1994 Mac gaming was better off than 2004 Mac gaming. This would've been true a year or two ago, but now the Mac platform actually has the hardware to keep up with PCs, and Apple's OpenGL implementation is probably the best one out there, at this point. The number of titles being ported to OS X has increased year-by-year, and the speed with which ports get done is doing likewise, with improved libraries for converting DirectX code to OpenGL.

Hell, this is arguably a critical period for Mac gaming. Bungie, with the latest Halo patch, forced players to have a legitimate CD in their drives before the game would actually launch because the number of legitimate copies of Halo floating around was less than the number of pirated copies. A lot of doom-sayers were crying that this screamed that Mac gamers were a bunch of pirates and that if they didn't stop, the market's potential would be wasted. Personally, I don't think this is true.

Halo was being rampantly pirated because it isn't worth $50. It's a two year-old game with no demo made by a company that had no problem flipping the Mac community the bird. So why is it a surprise that many Mac users don't want to give money to Microsoft or Bungie? They feel rightfully betrayed, and Bungie has a lot of balls asking $50 for Halo after selling out to Microsoft. Halo is being pirated because it's Halo, not because Mac gamers don't want to pay for their stuff. If this was true, then the market would've died a long time ago.

Gee, maybe the reason I don't buy a console is because the only games on it I like happen to be BETTER on the PC? Ever think of that dumbass?

I admit that I'm not exactly current as to the state of Mac gaming. And I agree with you that the current G5 Mac has excellent hardware and API support, the biggest problem being that not a lot of game companies think it is worth the trouble to port titles given the size of the Mac install base. I really hope you're right about things changing, but until I see some evidence of that, I'm not holding my breath.

Hey, you guys do what you have to do. I would be pissed if I were in your shoes too.
