"Invincible" hologram soldiers? pahleeeez!

Post by Darth Garden Gnome »

Ive heard Troll009s (and numerous others) arguments about how the feds could stomp all over the empire with these hologram soldiers  . First of all this point is moot because of the fact that this stuff is 29th century tech. But for the sake of argument...How is a starship supposed to "replicate" (supposing you can replicate phasers) phasers onto an enemy ship from a fed vessel? Heres a thought YOU CANNOT! Its impossible for them to replicate them they way they supposedly could on their vessel onto another ship when they cant beam through armor or sheilds. Secondly just because if you fire through the hologram and it is not damaged does not mean its invincibel by any means. Every one of these holograms has to be equipped with a mobile emitter, which is not holographic (and heres the real zinger) it CAN be destroyed! TA DA! hologram soldier goes by by. As for there use on their own ships for defence, an ion cannon to the ship will shut down its replicator and these hologram soldiers will fire upon enemys with A.) nothing at all or B.) useless shafts of light. I dont really know.....or care *walks out of room, slams door behind himself*

Also I remember in "ST: VOY: Repentance" Tuvok fired through the Doctor and it did do damage.

Actually, I think the holograms are supposed to work like this:

You spread holoemitters all over the ship, and then have numerous soldiers fight to prevent boardings. Just give them tommyguns and have the safties off, and all borg boardings are toast!!!

Also, to answer your useless shafts of light question, "WHAT IS A LASER?"

Drawbacks:

A computer is making life or death descisions on who to kill.

Lose main power or main computer = no holograms.

Enemy hacks into your computer = your holograms are now his.

Course, if you have holoemitters all over the ship, why not just make holographic spikes pop out of the wall to kill everyone instantly?

I personally am partial to having a 2-inch wide floor strip with gravity amplified several hundred times.

I like having an electromagnetic gizmo which causes all the bonds holding a boarder together to cease. Messy, but very, very effective, and not as energy intensive.

The EMH didn't seem to do a very good job of stopping the Borg in ST:FC. All it could do was talk to them! I also got the feeling that the Borg did, eventually, destroy the EMH or at least shut it down, although the sequence was still funny.

Incidentally, Grand Admiral Thrawn, I like your new signature. Did Loser099 really try to say that?

Stormtroopers CAN survive in hard vacuum for a period of time, and spacetroopers can survive for several days. Such tactics are ineffective against properly trained and equipped Imperial troops.

A few EMP weapons (like Ion Cannons) would stop your Holo Army. Jawas have their Ion Droid Disabler weapons. So in theory, a electric storm could kill your army too. What I wonder is, what will those Jawas do with all those broken holo Emmitters?[/b]

Oh yeah, that's right. And User099 did say that. I thought it was funny too.

Why get complicated with with ion blasts and electrical storms? Use what the Empire has always used, their standard weapons, any explosive force such as an AT ATs guns, etc will destroy the holoprojectors. In other words, the blasts may pass through the hologram *ahem* soldiers. but they will wreck those damned Holoemittors.

How stupid is this idea!! Seriously, a stupid little thing worn on the arm that is easily shot at and damaged by such wonderful things as SHRAPNEL and EXPLOSIVE FORCE makes for an AWESOME idea for a weapon.

And don't these security holograms have lousy combat abilities?

On the security matter, I'd go for the on/off gravity strip, but instead, have it 4 meters wide, not 2 inches.

Daniel Rodgers said they could be mass-produced on a Federation vessel because of an "Eergency Command Hologram" user interface was seen.

It would only make a difference for projectiles, but okay. There's really no reason to have it so narrow, except for the fact that you're going to need a heavily reinforced hallway to make it work.
