NFL Off-Season thread.
So far off-season is looking somewhat interesting. The T.O. trade was no suprise, not like any other team can take him (though as an interesting note the Jets gave more for our new wide reciever then the Ravens gave for Owens,) and besides that nothing really interesting besides Gibbs running around like a mad deranged diabetic, and the Eagles back-up being picked up by the Dolphins (it's my opinion that he's actually a better passer than McNabb.)
Though I am waiting for Sapp to be picked up (albiet with a deflated ego)...
Oh, and Redimperator, thought about PMing you this but figure that other fotball fans might enjoy this. Right about the week before the Conference Championship games the McDonalds nearby put up a poster of two fans wearing vaguelly green football jerseys cheering at a TV set, with the words along the lines of "The New McDonals Philly Cheese Steak, not just the only winners in town"

Any one player getting what they are paying Manning is a player who is getting overpaid.
I've been enjoying the whole T.O. crash and burn. I just hope he loses his appeal and has to either stick with the trade to the Ravens or stick with the 49ers, who thought he was such a pain in the ass that they'd only take a 2nd round draft pick for him.
I just love how recievers with over inflated egos have been getting shot down lately. First Keeyshawn and now T.O.
The only reciever in recent times who deserved to have the kind of high opinion of himself that some of these j-holes have was Jerry Rice and he didn't act the way these guys do.
I'm sorry, but one good or great reciever is not going to carry a team. A great quarterback, running back, linebacker or defensive lineman might carry a team but not a reciever. A reciever might win you a few games but that's it.

How about steal of the offseason.
Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis and picks.
Clinton Portis might end up doing a little better than the backs the Redskins already have but if he rushes for 1500 yards next season I'll be surprised. I also think the Redskins overpaid him.
I'm actually finding myself a little interested in seeing what Dennis Green can do with the Cardinals. He seems to have stirred a little excitement and expectation into the team plus his presense appears to have made Arizona a slightly more attractive place for free agents to go. To me that's a big improvement because Arizona was looking like the black hole for the last couple of years even if Dave McGuiness was a good guy and coach.

Well I'm loving what my Bengals are doing next year we're going to be tough. Hopefully Carson Palmer doesn't make too many rookie mistakes in his first year starting.
I also hope the deal to send Corey to Oakland works out, and that we sign Troy Vincent soon, especially since we just released our number 2 and 3 corners from last year.
I'm thinking playoffs this year.

The Lions haven't done anything even remotely interesting this season. We tried for a few minutes to get Boss Bailey and then gave up and started picking up no-name losers to bolster our loser team. Bah.
I've been saying it all last season: Joey Harrington and Dan Wilkens for Doug Flutie. We need a vet on this team at the helm, and since the Chargers suck more than we do, you'd think we might be able to pick him up on the cheap.

The McDonalds "Philly Cheesesteak" was an abomination. Never speak its name again.
Anyway, picking up Kearse was probably the best move the Eagles could have made. The entire defense just got better.
I'm hoping the arbitrator rules in TO's favor, because he could make our offense so much better. Yeah, I know all about his personality, but how scary is Donovan McNabb with a real #1 wideout to throw to and a healthy Brian Westbrook?
And good luck to A.J. Feely in Miami. He's a good guy and he'll always be a legend around here for stepping in and winning when McNabb and Depner both went down.

I give up! Fuck the NFL! The 49ers, the only team I have ever given shit about, have just gone and fucked themselves for the next 5-10 seasons.
What am I suposed to do iving in SOuthern California? Root for the Chargers? Gah! Fortunately they have hockey season at the same time. I hope JEff Garcia puts up giant fucking numbers and I hope Dennis Erickson is fired in disgrace and I hope the red and gold choke on it and go 0-16 forever!

Philly could stand to actually have a good player join the team during free agency for a change. Usually all the players are leaving.Anyway, picking up Kearse was probably the best move the Eagles could have made. The entire defense just got better.

Kearse being on the Eagles D should make things interesting and T.O. as a target for McNabb could be cool. I still don't like the guy though.
He's making millions of dollars a year and one of the reasons he's challenging the trade is because if he goes into free agency he could get a multi-million dollar signing bonus. Which is fine but he keeps saying that he has to do it to take care of his family.

The Cardinals could use some more fans and it's pretty easy to get seats to the games.

Now If I hate the 49ers for losing players how am I going to like the Cardinals, anytime someone gets too good for their current contract they mysteriously end up on another roster?Tsyroc wrote:You know, Phoenix is pretty close to Southern California.Darth Fanboy wrote:I give up! Nah if I have to cheer for a team it'll be the Chargers since I actually go to their games, but I think I'll just "immigrate to Canada" so to speak and stick with NHL.
College Football though, entirely different story, (go trojans!)

ESPN.com has an article on Ty Law saying he's never playing for the Patriots again. Ty Law ESPN Article
I understand that this is a business so these guys have to get what they can but it is a team sport. A team sport with an 80.6 million dollar salary cap, something I'm starting to get kind of tired of. I'm also begining to think that maybe going the same route as baseball might not be so bad. If Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones wants to try buying a Super Bowl lets see how that works for them. Hasn't worked well for Snyder so far but meanwhile the Pats just keep making do without paying a bunch of "stars" the big money.
Meanwhile, the Bucs are dumping John Lynch.
Last month Law called the Patriots' four-year, $26 million offer "an insult" and "a slap in the face."
![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
"They told me they didn't want to insult Ty anymore, so they're not going to submit any more offers," Carl Poston, Law's agent, told the Globe.
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
I guess that 2 point something million is the difference between Law eating and him starving to death."I can't do a thing about it but express my displeasure about playing for this organization," Law told the Globe. "I'll go to training camp. I've got bonuses for going to training camp. I'm just saying it won't be a comfortable working atmosphere. It's not a reason to hold out. I get $1 million just to show up. Who wouldn't show up for $1 million? The money ain't the thing, because I have that. Then again, I'm not going to sit here and say I don't want $7 million, either. That's stupid. Hell, we all gotta eat.
He'd be a fool to take less than what he already makes unless he likes playing for the organization that he's won 2 Super Bowls with. Maybe he might take a slight pay cut so the team can remain competative and maybe they can properly pay some of the other people who helped the team win those Super Bowls but weren't already making multiple millons of dollars a year."I would be a fool to take less than what I already make," Law told the newspaper. "So you're telling me, if I make $17 million over the next two years, if I'm a Patriot, I'm going to accept $15.6 million? That's a pay cut. I said it a thousand times, I'm not taking no pay cut. No. ... If this is a business and you can't afford to pay me what I deserve to be paid, that's fine. I have no problem with that. But let me go out there and earn the salary that I deserve and let me get the commitment from another team because I deserve more than just a one-year deal."

It's kind of sad to see Lynch leaving the Bucs. Rumor has it that the Jets and Colts would like to get him (both coaches used to coach for the Bucs) plus now there are whisperings that the Patriots might be trying to get him as well. He's certainly got the right attitude for the Patriots."I take great pride in the fact that in my career in the NFL I have never and will never play for a contract, rather any success I've had is the result of my play, my passion for the game I love, and the game I respect so much," Lynch said in a news conference held at a radio station in his hometown of San Diego and broadcast live in Tampa.

I wish Herm would get him. Fat chance of it happening though, our cap is screwed (Thank you Bill!) we need another Linebacker, we need two Defensive Lineman (Sapp would be nice) and our offensive line has lost one of our star guards. We also need a safety, but with our run defense the way it is I really would hope Herm would go and pick up a D-Lineman...Tsyroc wrote: It's kind of sad to see Lynch leaving the Bucs. Geez, talk about the NFL jumping through hoops to make T.O. happy.
Getting Terrell Owens declared a free agent
I also saw that David Boston is supposed to be going from the Chargers to the Dolphins. He should help them out a bit with their passing.
I also like Page 3's advice for T.O.
Getting Terrell Owens declared a free agent
Sources tell ESPN's Sal Paolantonio that the San Francisco 49ers, Owens' former team, would receive a player and/or a draft pick from the Eagles. The player being prominently discussed is Eagles defensive lineman Brandon Whiting; with the signing of Jevon Kearse, the Eagles have a surplus of defensive ends. And the Baltimore Ravens, who earlier this month obtained Owens from the 49ers -- would receive a compensatory draft pick, either from the Eagles or from the league.

Instead, harp on the fact that you don't want three years of Kyle Boller or Anthony Wright tossing the rock to you. It's either the best, or nothing at all. And make sure to watch your back for Ray Lewis if Philly's got Baltimore in an NFC-AFC matchup.

Manning overpaid? Yes, in as much as all professional atheletes are overpaid. They aren't curing cancer, after all. Having said that, he's worth every penny of the 8 million he's counting against our cap. I mean, I don't have trouble saying he's worth a full 10% of the team's value.
As long as they keep him paired up with Harrison, I'm a happy colts fan.
There has been a lot of talk about Sapp being interested in playing up here for something rediculous like minimum vet pay. The only TB player I want is Kent Dilger. I'd like to see him retire as a Colt.
I'm excited about the draft, and I can't wait to start next year with Clark and Pyatt back.
