Jon Stewart: Bringing the funny for four more years

Post by Alferd Packer »

Not sure if this belongs here or in N&P, but we'll give it a go:

Jon Stewart re-signs with Daily Show until 2008

All I can say to this is: HUZZAH! :D

The show is pretty funny at times (epecially the other 'columnists'), although it would be nice if Stewart would do something other than satire Bush, conservatives, and the war in Iraq.

Daily Shows the greatest news show ever. Seriously, alot of people tend to rely on it for their news info. :)

And good on them, because the show tends to discuss things that most people don't read the topics in the news.

Oh, give me a fucking break. They've lambasted both parties, especially during the election season, and the Bush administration is just too much of a comedy gold mine for them to pass up. Did you ever watch the show when Clinton was in office? Same story.

BTW: This belongs in N&P, I think.

Actually, no, I never watched it back when Clinton was in office, and I haven't seen it much in the last month or so...I'll have to give it another chance.

The funniest thing they've ever done on the show, in my opinion, was the 2000 election. For weeks before the election, they were promising "around the clock coverage until its over". Well, you know what happened, and on Wedsnday the show came on, and there was Jon, looking like he hadn't slept, showered, or shaved in two days.

"Well, here we are, into hour... thirty-one of our election coverage, let's go to Steven Cobert."

"This just in, Jon, my baby girl just took her first steps, and I was stuck here."

LOL!

This is so typical of you, quite frankly. He doesn't suck George Bush's cock the way Fox News does, so you put him on the blacklist.

Haha, ALL the hardcore right conservatives do that.

Anyway, the Daily Show does make fun of both sides, just the other night they were making fun of Kerry. He went "shopping" with all the cameras around, and he even bought a jock strap

TDS is a satire about the news, and Bush, conservatives and the war in Iraq are in the news a lot of the time; so it's only natural that a lot of TDS's reporting is on those subjects.

There are simply too many things they've done to pick out the funniest. Colbert is just one sick motherfucker. My mom put it best: "He just looks like this white-bread, white-collar guy with a stick up his ass. Then you hear the things that come out of his mouth and you go, 'My God! Did he just say that?'"

When Colbert did the piece on his cat dying of a "blunt trauma to the back of the head," I was in tears.

WTF, Mike? I've lambasted Fox News before. If not, then let me make it known right now that FNC is most definitely the most sensationalist of all the news channels, and most assuredly not as balanced as they'd like to see. Shows like O'Reilly are complete jokes.

And how does that change the fact that you objected to the Daily Show simply because (gasp) he doesn't pussyfoot around Republican sensibilities?

The few episodes that I saw of the Daily Show was during the Iraq war ... he did an interview of a possible challenger to George W Bush for the presidency and had a debate between President GW Bush and Governor of Texas GW Bush.

Using file footage of the same man (when he was Governor and as President), he asked questions like; what about Iraq? Foreign policy, how should America act in the broader world? etc.

The responses? 180 degrees apart.

I couldn't stop laughing my ass off!

Quit twisting my words. You know good and well I didn't say such a thing. I objected that he did anything near an equal amount of satire to both sides of issues.

Oh puh-lease. See http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacie ... round.html for a diagnosis of your mental problem.

The fact is that any Bush's policy moves of late have been perfect fodder for comedy, and your position seems to be that Stewart does nothing else, which is not true, or that Stewart is being totally unfair, which is also not true.

What do you expect? Should Jon Stewart make fun of the people who predicted that Iraq would turn into a quagmire for ... being correct? Should he make fun of Hans Blix rather than Donald Rumsfeld for ... being correct? Should he make fun of gay-marriage advocates based on ... their failure to be sufficiently Christian? It just so happens that on the big news issues of the last year, the people in the news making asses out of themselves were often Republican. This has nothing to do with Jon Stewart himself, and he did go after Dean or Nader when an opportunity presented itself.

He was interviewing some political guy (RNC chairman, IIRC) and talking about the election:

RNC: ...but I think 2004 is not going to be like 1984.
Jon: Oh, it's looking like 1984 all right!
Don't hate; appreciate!

RIP Eddie.
