Puzzling PS2 Problem.

Post by Darksider »

For some reason, my PS2 gets a disc read error whenever I try to play Volume 1 or Volume 3 of SG1 season six. It's just those two discs though. Every other game, CD, or DVD I have works and I know it's not the discs themselves, because they work in my DVD player.

I can't figure out what's going on. Can someone help me?

Sometimes a scratch on a disc can cause problems with different CD/DVD players. Some players are able to read better than others; the PS2 apparently can't.

Your PS2 may be slowly dying and/or out of alignment.

Is there anywhere I can take it to get it checked out and, if need be, fixed?

You can pay Sony $$ to fix it, or you can try it yourself. Ars has a good article.

Ask at a local game store, they can probably refer you to a local service center that's licensed by Sony. It's what I did when my system stopped reading discs.

Service agents that repair PS2s will charge rather large sums of money. The closest one to where I am charges $250NZD just to look at it and say "yep, she's fucked" which works out about $150USD. Have no idea what your local sony agents would charge but I wouldn't expect it to be much different.
