download your mind?

Post by Lancer »

If you could download your mind into another body (cybernetic or otherwise), what would it be? (NO CULTURE)

Or would you keep your original body?

I'll keep my body, thank you.

Only if it's into a Culture Mind.

Then I can remake my body as required.

If I had the opportunity to put my mind in a Ghost in the Shell cybernetic body I'd be out of this fleshly existence faster than Spike Lee getting out of a room full of white people.

Only if I could have all the fun sensory things I have now. If I can't, I'll save it for when I'm old and going to die soon, and hopefully the tech will have gotten better.

Ditto. Full sensory replication, as well as Mind like form factor or better. Nothing else will do until it's the only alternative to being dead.

I'd keep my real body. Only because I don't know much about the choices. T-1000 I of course know, and the T-x, but I don't know anything about Asimov's "gravatonic" robot, nor the replicators.

I would do the download, because it's only a copy and I would still be in my good old body.
I hope my copy likes me.

You've got a Uber Replicator listed?!?!

Those things would own everything else on that list.

I don't know about Gravatonic, but if that robot is somewhere near Daneel Olivaw, the uber-replicator would feel a sudden urge to jump into the nearest black hole.

Going by the look of the thread so far, it looks like it would be a good idea if you could give us a bit more information on the Gravatonic (Gravitonic?) Robot and the Replicator. As it is, the choice of a nice range of built-in weapons makes T-X quite appealling.

The replicator is from Stargate. It's basically an E-dust machine, quite immune to modern small arms and even advanced energy weapons. If one had the intellect to use that form as it is meant to be used, you could do about anything, and certainly have a selection of weapons that would make the T-X weep.

I haven't seen that much of SG-1, but judging by how the poll entry for this is written, am I correct in presuming that they actually have a humanoid version (rather than just the arachnoid ones)?

Yes. The humanoid version were basically like the Cultureverse E-Dust assassins, lots of microscopic blocks that could form a shapeshifter thing. They also had the ability to command - though it was unclear wheter the replicators obeyed their suggestions because they had or to because they wanted to or if they couldn't disobey.

Naturally they can replicate to produce more of themselves, and probably traditional replicators. They could also invade human minds somehow, into a sort of dream-scape. Needless to say, I imagine we could all come up with some useful sexual usages of that

i figure if i could transfer my mind into another body, it would have to be one capable of duplicating most, preferably all human sensation, however it would have to be far more durable. i'd hate to exist as just a consciousness with no option for physical sensation whatsoever.

Spaceship of somekind.
In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well.

Gravitonic Robot. 'Cuz i could :)

But OTOH, the best any of us can hope for is to die at home in our sleep feeling no pain, which would be my second, and prefered, choice.

That was just a little bit of downer juice from 18

Gravatonic robot is a more efficent version of the standard positronic robot brain. Not much details about physical workings, but a gravatonic robot is immune to electron-guns, and doesn't have the three laws imprinted into it's mind. Not sure if they're capable of Daniel Olivaw level powers, but nothing to suggest they're not. Only one was ever made, the (pseudo)r obot Caliban.

As for the Replicator, a sentient collection of nanites able to replicate a human body's functions down to the cellular level. I was thinking about a Reese-level replicator android, but since you all want First-level ablilities, they're probably somewhat past EDust.

Well, Reese wasn't actually a 'replicator' so I'd assume that it's talking about First, Second, Third, etc.

Voted replicator as long as we're talking invunreable nanite replicator not taken out by a single shotgun shell anise type.

Nanite replicators can probs creat old fashioned reps as well, elimating anises only advantage. They properly don't fell pain when one of thir little spawn are blasted in to their compostie blocks either.

Anise is a Tok'ra, symbiote of Freya. Reese is the one you're thinking of.

If I had to choose one, it would be the replicator.

Indeed it should be. But no matter. I choose the replicators, because they made the Asgard shit their proverbial pants.
