CD-Drive = Kaput!
Yes, my computer has suddenly decided to stop my cd-drive from working. First all that other bullshit, now this. I think it fucking hates me. The comp is a custom-job, so I doubt I could take it into a repair-shop and just have it fixed up. Could there be a reason software-wise that stops the drive from working? I'm running Windows XP btw.

Thats the problem, I dont even know what company made the damned thing. (actually, the comp is 'officially' my brother's, but he never uses the thing.... I'll have to ask him.)Darth_Zod wrote:try reinstalling the drivers that the CD drive works with maybe? look up the website of the company that makes your drive and see what they have.

XP uses general drivers for cd-rom it's a very rare that needs drivers.
Try this R-Click my computer / Choose Manage / Device Manager / DVD CD Rom drivers / R-Click on the malfunktion device / Propeties / Driver / Update Driver / Go with the defaults and restart.
If it still fails I think your out of luck and might as well buy a new cd-rom

the brand should be printed somewhere on the CD drive. if not on the front then open up the case and take a look at the labels on it.Captain tycho wrote:Thats the problem, I dont even know what company made the damned thing.
