I am. About 30 minutes from Spanky. I'm in a little bitty town that probably doesn't even qualify to be on a map, except it has a college in it (which happens to be the college I go to). I'm originally from Chicago.
Well that narrows it down, most of the towns in Iowa wouldn't qualify to be on a map in most states.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

If anything, I think the fifty members would be a major underestimate. And I doubt Sylvar would be that offended. She's survived SB.com after all.

Say it...if you have the balls...
Wow, you've got to love this lady.
I'm sure it'll be nothing more than rant on how you're wasting time and money with an impractical education. He thinks any education that has to do with the arts is a waste.

Correction: I think that any education which does not instill in the student an understanding of rational, objective thought through the prime example of the scientific method is a complete waste, because the resulting adult will have knowledge but not logic, information but not understanding. It is a pale simulation of education to teach people what to say but not how to think.
In other words, an arts education is useful in addition to some knowledge of science. An arts education is utterly useless as a REPLACEMENT for some knowledge of science.

If you aren't bothering to learn anything about logic, then yes.
I suppose it's possible to learn about logic through independent study, but at the risk of being insensitive, what makes you think an education is worth anything if you come out of it without understanding basic logic? Very few disciplines teach it; philosophy teaches it in theory, science teaches it in practice. Otherwise, you've just got to hope you can learn it as you go along, which sort of negates some of the purpose of education (you're not supposed to need to pick up basic life skills on your own after your education is done).

I suppose that would depend on the type of philosophy. If it's the type where you can prove an argument by quoting dead philosophers (and yes, I've made the mistake of taking that type of philosophy course before), then I'm afraid you're not learning much of value.
