Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire

Post by Vympel »

Having had the opportunity to play, my reaction is mostly favorable, with a view reservations. Anyway, the good points:

Guns

Serge Popov has really improved the weapons lineup: the existing guns have been made to look much nicer, and lots of new guns have been added. Silly things from the original were removed (e.g. those dumb "rocket rifles" were replaced with a real-life weapon- perhaps the FN F2000, and the "rod & spring" attachment was done away with). Ammunition has also been cleaned up substantially.

Sound

Gun effects have been redone. Sounds much better.

Level design

There are more buildings and such per map and the military/important installations (like Drassen Airport) are more heavily guarded, with guard towers, proper fencing, etc.

Bad points:

Bugs

Some levels are unstable. Drassen airport in particular crashes a lot for some reason.

Balancing/ pacing

There are double the amount of enemies on novice in Wildfire than there are in the original on hard. This is partly made up by the fact that you get quality rifles (M4, Colt Commandos, Mini-30s, AKMs) pretty soon (in Drassen), but there are other things that shit me off. For one, the SAM sites are now defended by minefields. Except ... you don't have any mine detection equipment, and there's none for sale. So forget about using the chopper for a few days.
