Buy a more expensive computer so it wont get viruses!
Just make sure that extra money is going high spec parts and high end accessories, don't buy an anti-virus package as they are merely the tools of vicious retailers that want your money!
Ok, today at work, this guy starts bitching that the computer he bought a year ago has been nothing but crap. He also took the time to mention that our service was crap, our store was crap, the entire operation was crap and that none of us knew a thing about what we're talking about. The computer he purchased (he claimed that he spent $4,000 NZD on the system and accessories) has been suffering virus attacks from day one. When asked what sort of anti-virus software he was running he told me that when spending such a large sum of money on a computer one would expect that it would go for at least a little while before getting viruses. When presented with a copy of Norton's anti-virus he said "fuck that, I'm throwing away the machine and buying a new one."
He then stormed out the door quicker then anyone could say "you could try reformatting your hard disk."
Oh well, this guy's going to be good for the local economy.
As a side note: when the last person that was worried about viruses but wasn't quite ready to fork out for a copy of Norton came in I gave them the URL for AVG.

Gotta love the days when the worst virus you could get was NOINT.DPDarkPrimus wrote:Foolproof way for not getting any viruses: Never use the internet, and never use anything from the internet.
NOINT was a boot virus that basically did nothing but annoy your virus scanner...I think anyway.

I'd storm out the door if you tried to sell me Norton.Spyder wrote: When presented with a copy of Norton's anti-virus he said "fuck that, I'm throwing away the machine and buying a new one."

It causes me more ballache than any other single program.
(The full internet security suite is worse, it can actually get into a state where it's unremovable without a special tool)

He wasn't upset because he didn't like Norton, he was upset because he was going to have to pay more money to get rid of viruses, which he seemed to think were the result of manufacturing defects.Vendetta wrote:

Had he not acted like a total asshole when he came in I would have mentioned AVG. I'm not going to be helpful to someone that tells me I don't know what I'm talking about on first meeting. Had he not opened the conversation with a barrage of verbal abuse I would have talked him through his various options including freeware virus scanners, patches, I would have asked him what symptoms his machine was suffering from, if he was suffering from common viruses like the blaster worm I would given him a patch for it.

There are enough assholes that piss you off so much to act as you did. I think he deserves it.Spyder wrote:He wasn't upset because he didn't like Norton, he was upset because he was going to have to pay more money to get rid of viruses, which he seemed to think were the result of manufacturing defects.Vendetta wrote:

After I got laid off by the asshole boss in the Government. The idiot not only would open the things where we told him not to open (gee 17 viruses all comming off of his computer), includied his password in his emails, and two weeks after I left he put a CD in the 5.25" drive!
The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin
