Is there such thing as full alliance? I'm surrounded by two alliances, one is the top alliance, and he said they are full with 4 members, bleh, getting snubbed I think.
Galaxy #83 can not start until 1 more players sign up.
Okay, so I've colonized one planet (with 74% habitability, not so bad) but I don't have enough resources to colonize anywhere else. The next most habitable planet is around 65%, but I still can't colonize it. I'm building some mines and factories on my homeworld, and I'm holding off building on my colony until the hab goes up a bit more.
By the way: I'm only able to see seven stars surrounding my homeworld, and can't travel any further. Do I need better ships to go farther, or am I missing something?

Any help would be excellent.
If you are using mozilla you won't be able to go anywhere for some reason use IE. Click on fleet control then move fleet.
I'm using IE to play the game (under protest), and the problem isn't that I can't control my fleet. My problem is that I've explored all the immediate surroundings, and I can't find any more unexplored planets. Does this make sense? Do my ships need to be better in order to find more distant targets? Do I have to colonize more planets in order to unlock more planets?

yes as you can only see planets that are next to your colony
Okay, that makes sense, about only being able to see the planets next to your colonies.
Here's a question: how far should I be so far? I've been building megas, mines and factories since the beginning on my homeworld, and have 29 ticks to go if I want to continue it until they're done. I've colonized two other worlds (after having had to buy prod & ore on the market for the second one), and have discovered a total of nine other planets, the vast majority of which are crap.
To get to the actual question: is this reasonable progress for this far into the game?

in what galaxy are you playing? I HOPE your in G83 that isnt running so long yet because if your in G82 (where i am) your doing very very bad. (i have 34 systems of which 30 colonised next tick). If your talking about G83 than i dont know as i dont got an acount in there (and i dont know how long its running)
Offcourse you can always look at "Top players" for personal rankings (general or species whise) and "Leader board" (more detailed but only top10)
I am, indeed, in Galaxy 83. It's been running since March 22, so it's about 3.5 days. My progress so far: 4 colonies (in addition to my homeworld), 9 other planets (most of which are useless). No fleet yet, aside from the scouts, and no research. I've just found my first neighbour earlier today, and since he isn't on the leaderboard even for his species (Shy'dow) I don't think he's a terribly worthy member. Unfortunately, that limits expansion in that direction.
So, how do things work later on? If I can only see systems which are adjacent to my colonized worlds, then I'd have to colonize one of his claimed planets in order to proceed? Also, how do I colonize a world he's claimed, if I want to do it by force? Is there a mechanism for bartering uncolonized worlds?
Sorry if there are so many questions, but I haven't found the answers I'm looking for in the manual.

i guess thats ok. Just remember that one of the most important things of the games is being active (so check in a lot every day). Poor active players end up higher than good inactive players
did you used the "search" section to see what rank and number of systems the shydow has? If he got 1 or 3 planets and a rank of around 400-500 you can be sure hes inactive. If not, you might want to ally with him so you can trade uncolonised planets that give eachother the best hab
Yeah, he looks inactive, but I wonder if the search is returning an accurate result. It says his rank is 601, but that his number of planets is zero. He clearly has at least two planets, including his homeworld and this uncolonized world. In any case, my 3 scouts just made his 2 scouts run away, so I'm orbiting his planet. Do I assume correctly that I get ownership of the planet by doing this?

if you deleted or gone inactive for more than 72 hours (IIRC) the search gives 0 planets. In any other case its accurate.
So im very sure he has 1 homplanet along with 2 scouted but unclonised planets. If you scout carefully those uncolonised will be easy to take as they only got 1 scout on it
to answer your question: yes an uncolonised planet of a player immediatly becomes yours when your the only one with a ship in its orbit. Unless your allied with him offcourse
Go me, I'm ranked 12 in galaxy 83 I have 7 colonies (soon 8 I think, it depends on population growth) and I'm nr 5 on the list of empires with most buildings
Clearly, you've identified yourself as Pa of Paa. How do you have 7 colonies with only 11 planets total? I have 6 (soon 7) colonies, and *17* systems total.
Also, as long as we're sharing: any alliances yet? I've only run into one other empire, and he was inactive, so I'm helping myself to his (non-colonized) planets. I think I'll leave his homeworld alone, since it's practically useless to me, and would shred any ships I might choose to throw at him.
no I have no alliance in fact I haven't seen anyone else I'm all alone
I only have 11 systems because I probably just had bad luck with my colonies not revealing any new greys but in an hour I get two more greys and they are the last that I see on my map
I feel I'm gonna get crushed in a week or less. I have a huge number of planets, a half-decent economy going, but my neighbours have so far proved to be useless. And without alliances, there's no point to the game, because you'll get, well, crushed.

everyting isnt lost yet. just try to maintain a descent rank and hopefully you'll find good players to team up with
