I'm not sure what to tell them. I copied down the information straight from my W-2. The only thing I think could be a problem would be the $20 I made in interest from a savings account.- Error 679: Taxpayer's 2002 Adjusted Gross Income does not match IRS

I need help filing my taxes.
I was filing my taxes, for the first time, online and I received this message from the website I was filing:
"Our people were meant to be living gods, warrior-poets who roamed the stars bringing civilization, not cowards and bullies who prey on the weak and kill each other for sport. I never imagined they'd prove themselves so inferior. I didn't betray our people – they betrayed themselves."

Re: I need help filing my taxes.
They want last year's adjusted gross income from the income tax form you filed last year for what you made in 2002. This way they are able to electronically verify that you are really you.Crom wrote:I was filing my taxes, for the first time, online and I received this message from the website I was filing:I'm not sure what to tell them. Oh, alright. Well, since it's my first time filing, and I didn't have a gross income last year, it should be easy to somehow tell them that.Tsyroc wrote:They want last year's adjusted gross income from the income tax form you filed last year for what you made in 2002. Thanks Tsyroc.

Since it's your first time filing you might have to go with what Melkor is saying.Crom wrote:Oh, alright. You also might try filing over the phone. I did that once or twice before they started doing efile.

Yeah, by phone is nice, unfortunately its dependant on you getting a booklet in the mail with a pin. I didn't get that this year. It worked out better filing online though. I got to do my federal and state for free, and only had to fill in the info once.Tsyroc wrote:Since it's your first time filing you might have to go with what Melkor is saying.Crom wrote:Oh, alright. I'll try sending in the hard copy version. I'll just swing by the local library and pick up a 1040 EZ and hope for the best. I think it should have a place for me to point out that in '02 I wasn't make any money.

The only reason you need last years information is to verify your identity for electronic signing. There is no place to explain you didn't file a return last year because you probably arn't required to sign electronically.
Double check the program you used and see if they give you the mailing in your signature option. If not go to the IRS website and look for companies that do online returns. If you are elible to use Tax Slayer do that. It also asked me for the info about my return from last year (which I might not have and am to lazy to dig up). That and I think my birthday were required for online signing of the return. Since I didn't have that though, it told me to print up form OL-8453 for my federal return and NJ-8453 for my state return, sign those and just mail them in. That worked fine and it took me about two weeks to get my refund.

I did mine back in February, and H&R Block gave me my tax return check that day. ![Twisted Evil ](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.

Still better than paying but I must have misread the last time you posted it because I thought it was $8000. I still think $800 is pretty good. It's more than I've ever got back.LadyTevar wrote:It was only $800.....Tsyroc wrote:What's really special was the size of her return.
