We're already seeing that in Japan: PS3s being sold on eBay are starting to go for less than retail value. The bottom has totally fallen out of the market.
I seem to remember something similar happening with tulip bulbs....

It just goes to show you that if something has no inherent value but is buoyed by speculators, that when the price starts falling there's nothing to stop it.

Thats why I ended up not eBaying my Xbox 360 when I bought it on day one. I was assuming that when more systems came in, that the bottom would fall out on the eBay market and I would end up selling my 360 below retail. Also, I just wanted to play the damn thing.

It was a nice idea before everyone decided to do it.

A friend of mine's bro walked into Wal-Mart on his lunch break on launch day and bought one. He decided not to sell it.

That video literally made me nauseous and I had to stop watching halfway through.

Hehe! That was a funny video. Very cold hearted, but I'm in quite a bastard mood right now.

This has got to be a new height of fanboyism. I don't think even hardcore Apple fanatics would be sickened and nauseated by a video of someone beating the shit out of an Apple product.

It was funnier when they did it with a 360, because pieces flew farther.

I can't wait for them to smash the Wii. Nintendo products are notoriously durable, but it's so tiny, I wouldn't be suprised to see it snap it two after a few sledgehammer blows.

That's not what gets me, although it's pretty fucking stupid to buy such a thing only to waste it.

No, I'm more concerned with the fact that the cash could've gone to charity, you know, to do something for someone rather than some retard Canuck's idea of fun. Asking for donations so you can be a dick is pretty sad.

Every time we spend money for our entertainment, that money could have gone towards charity. Why is sending some chump change to a dude, so I can see a video of a PS3 getting smashed, different than blowing $7 on a movie ticket? Or $20 on a new DVD? Or $600 on a new console?

(I didn't contribute anything; I didn't even know about this until the thread came up.)

I'm trying to imagine the people who giggled like schoolgirls at that video, and high-fived each other and thought 'what an awesome way to spend money'.

I've watched them do it on G4 too many times to be bothered.
Though I have disliked Kevin ever since. :P

Because spending money on a movie ticket or getting a DVD isn't a retarded waste like destroying an already limited run console? Honestly, if you need pointing out why this is fucking stupid...

Now the SmashMyWii video was much more amusing to me. The PS3 is limited and expensive and a massive waste, especially when so many people are working so hard to get them. The Wii is actually rather easy to find, with stores getting nearly daily shipments of them.

The fact that the Wii gets thrown onto the ground with no visible damage other than the removable side panels flying out, and then takes the first two sledgehammer hits with nothing more than dents brought a smile to my face.

"But that money could have gone to charity!" is the default argument against anything where there isn't a real argument to be made. This guy bought a PS3. Whether he enjoys his new PS3 most by playing it, smashing it in front of fanboys, rubbing his cock on it, or covering it in butter and trying to eat it isn't really anyone's concern but his.

Yeah, because I can't voice my disgust at a fucking waste of money from various people. There is an argument to be made, and that is the guy is a retard with a childish nature.

So, by destroying a console he spent $600 on, it's somehow a waste, but if he'd kept it to actually use it for what it was made for, it wouldn't be? Maybe it's just me but I'm not seeing the issue here. Regardless of what happens with a luxury item, the money spent on it still goes to the people who made the thing. IE - Sony. So where's the waste problem coming from?

Posted: 2006-11-20 03:57pm
by Admiral Valdemar
The waste is that someone else could've had the console. My point of contention is that it was totally pointless and dumb, much like anything in Jackass. He obviously did it to spite those waiting for their consoles anyway. It reeks asshole, regardless of him spending the cash on it for his own personal use or not.

Weren't you just bitching that it was a waste of money earlier, with the console having nothing to do with it? Consistency would be nice here.

Yeah, the cash could've been spent on something better, but if you're going to ignore that waste, it was still a stupid thing to do anyway. He could've even sold it on and made more money.

Either way, bloody stupid. Or does his ownership exonerate dumb behaviour now?
