Darksider wrote:A quick question. How are anon pulling off these DDOS attacks without getting caught? I know they use tools to suck up bandwith (The last one I saw on partyvan before it went down was Low-Orbit-Ion-Cannon ) but can't they be tracked back to the computer used?
They usually use a proxy server so that the target only gets the proxies IP address. They then have to get the people running the proxy to reveal their IP logs (if they keep them), and even then that may only lead to another proxy.
The problem with Anonymous in this case, is that they have no structure, in some senses. Superman, your guess is as good as my own guess in this case. This is going to be the first time I have seen Anonymous taken remotely seriously.

They're going to have one hell of a time taking on this cult of litigious loons if they lack basic organization. I guess attacking them via the internet doesn't require much in terms of structure, but I would like to know what their next step consists of. If they truly believe they can "destroy" Scientology, surely they would have to mobilize and come up with better plans?
The declaration of war they made against Scientology was coherent enough, and their plan of attack seems quite exacting. However, its one thing to write it all down and have internet nerds agree it sounds cool. Its quite another to get them to mobilize in ways off the computer.
That being said, I hope Anon does some serious wrecking crew stuff on CoS

I'd argue the lack of cohesion to Anon make them uniquely qualified to tackle Scientology. You can't throw lawsuits at a non-entity, after all.

Well, long run no organization is going to hurt them, but this may be a weird case of Scientology meeting an enemy they can't fight they way they have before. Their standard tactics are intimidation and litigation.
But how do you scare these people? Worse yet, how do you sue them? Oh sure, you might catch a few, but that's just going to piss off the legions of other guys out there, ramping up their mobilization.
Scientology is literally in a scenario of a fly swatter vs. a swarm of bees. Against a single bee they can easily crush, but once the swarm gets agitated, swatting at it is only going to piss them off.

I think the hope is that with enough Anonymous, and enough support, there will be people that are willing to throw off their masks and take the fight to them through other means, whatever they are capable of.
What're they expecting to accomplish with these tactics? It sounds like nothing more than base harrasement to me, really. Scientology's been effectively banned by certain countries and it still doesn't really stop them. I'm not seeing how a bunch of Internet users are going to do dick to them that'll matter in any span of time.

Well, like I mentioned, the more law abiding anons are mobilizing behind the likes of Mark Bunker and Arnie Lerma. They automatically have respect from the majority simply because they've been fighting Scientology for so long and in public. They also happen to be pretty eloquent which is always a plus.

Anonymous has several different methods. There are currently in motion letter writing campaigns that seek to remove Scientology's tax exempt status in the United States. Also, there is a massive global protest planned for February 10th outside of many major Scientology centers. This in and of itself has the church so worried that leaked memos indicate they might actually just close up shop to prevent their followers from seeing the protests at all.
As for anons who can't directly participate in the protests for whatever reason, they are still able to educate and motivate their friends and family of just how dangerous Scientology is.
Someone posted this on youtube.
I don't know if it's official, or just some scientology zealot that did it, but they talk about 711chan.org being offline (which it is, it seems the church managed to take it down) so i don't think it's just one random loon.
So, they threatened and mocked anonymous on the same video, if there was one way to piss off the hordes, that was it.
This response has also been added here: Encyclopedia Dramatica. Where the whole thing is being kinda documented.
This should get interesting. One sure way to keep the anons active and growing is to confront them directly like that youtuber. Openly mocking them is only going to escalate the situation.

Hmm. I suppose we'll see how well these protests go when they happen. I can't imagine many politicians getting behind removing their tax exempt status, seeing as how Scientology would fight tooth and nail for that one and a letter-writing campaign isn't a good counter to that.

711chan got hacked by an unrelated group. They apparently got angry that the news was calling Anonymous a bunch of hackers and after a few back and forths between the two sites 711chan decided to pull out. It's definitely curious that the CoS would try to take credit for doing something that they simultaneously condemn Anonymous for. Whatever.

That might be their ultimate goal, but at this point they probably just want to make their presence known.

Gah, can't these nerds put aside their cyber wanking and unite for a common cause? Damn you, nerds! DAMN YOU!

Sorry for the double-post, but no edits.
To help with that, Anonymous has been reaching out to Christian and other religious groups. They wield enormous political power and one would imagine they'd be less than pleased with Scientology's official position that Jesus was a child molester subject to violent fits. Or Hubbard essentially calling himself the anti-christ.

Oooooooh... then someone just threw gasoline (or at least more of it) on the fire, because taking credit for someone else's work starts Internet wars. This is either some retarded Scientologist cultist shooting his mouth off and incidentally shooting himself in the foot, or a clever bastard trying to draw otherwise uninterested parties into the fray. Either way, has the chance of escalating the shit storm further.

Eh, heh. They're certainly going to have to come out of hiding at that point, if they honestly want the backing of various Christians organizations. I can barely see them helping their cause in the first place, let alone if no one's actually willing to shed their anonymity.

I've never heard anything like that before. What's that from?

They aren't planning to go to the churches as Anonymous. They are planning to go to the churches as concerned citizens, or concerned church members. Once the various churches have the facts, they can just disappear again and let each church proceed however it wants to.
OK, so this NSFW thread from /b/ could very well be started by a troll, on the off chance it is an actual member of the Church who has had their faith shaken, that makes me happy. Even if this whole thing causes one person to leave the church, that's one less person giving their money to Scientology, which makes it worth it in my eyes.

I think whoever posted the Scientology Person's youtube video is a crank trying to muddy the waters--they mentioned Ebaum'sworld going down next. I don't think many people would shed a tear over that, and it's hardly a valid target for litigation by the CoS.
Aaaand my link is down. It went from 5 posts, to 105 posts, to no posts in a few hours. Such is the life of a /b/ thread apparently.
Oh well.
As for the "Supposed" response, it's probably from some overenthusiastic Scientologist. The fact that they mentioned ebaumsworld.com is LOLtastic.

It's from the OTVIII stuff. I'll bold some of the more interesting parts.
L. Ron Hubbard wrote:"What follows is a story that has been withheld, for reasons which will soon be obvious, until such time as there were enough OTs that something could be done about it. That time is now. It is not a nice or pretty story, but I trust that having arrived on the OT VIII course you are ready to hear it.
"No doubt you are familiar with the Revelations section of the Bible where carious events are predicted. Also mentioned is a brief period of time in which an arch-enemy of Christ, referred to as the anti-Christ, will reign and his opinions will have sway. All this makes for very fantastic, entertaining reading but there is truth in it.
"This anti-Christ represents the forces of Lucifer (literally, the 'light bearers' or 'light bringer'), Lucifer being a mythical representation of the forces of enlightenment, the Galactic Confederacy. My mission could be said to fulfill the Biblical promise presented by this brief anit-Christ period.
"During this period there is a fleeting opportunity for the whole scenario to be effectively derailed, which would make it impossible for the mass Marcabian landing (Second Coming) to take place. The Second Coming is designed, among other things, to trigger a rapid series of destructive events. [...] Virtually all religions of any consequence on this planet, mono-and pantheistic alike, have been instruments to speed the progress of the 'evolution of consciousness' and bring about the eventual enslavement of mankind.
"For those of you whose Christian toes I may have stepped on, let me take the opportunity to disabuse you of some lovely myths. For instance, the historic Jesus was not nearly the sainted figure he has been made out to be. In addition to being a lover of young boys and men, he was given to uncontrollable bursts of temper and hatred that belied the general message of love, understanding and other typical Marcab PR. You have only to look at the history his teachings inspired to see where it all inevitably leads. It is historic fact and yet man still clings to the ideal, so deep and insidious is the biologic implanting."
This is somewhat in conflict with Scientology's claim to be 100% compatible with Christianity.
