It's easy. All the psykers are at the student level and its going to be hard to tell how well they'll turn out. Best to grab a bunch of them and hope at least one turns out to survive and be capable of doing Inquisition work. Psykers are far too useful at finding warp critters, witches, and xeno psykers not to want to have a couple on staff.
Of course, you would also want a couple of minder and heavy hitters as well.

You know, I just had a thought. If we just had one of our psykers switch over to an assassin that would leave us two psykers, two assassins, right? Perhpaps then the "in-universe" justification for some of the force disposition is that the assassins were hired to keep an eye on the psykers.
Actually, fitting the "The index finger doesn't know what what the middle finger is doing, let alone what the other hand is up to" politics of the Inquisition, perhaps each of us could be assigned a "secret mission" from the Inquisitor, something we're supposed to do but not tell anyone about. Like keep an eye on the psykers and off them if we think they're becoming corrupt. Or some sort of other mission that might put us at odds with the rest of the party. Not the sort of things that would immediately degenerate into everyone trying to kill everyone else, but that might induce paranoia and suspicion as there are conflicting submissions and goals at play. Might be interesting if everyone agrees to that sort of thing.

Sounds interesting and fun. Though I don't think we need any "justification" for our force makeup. I shudder to think of what the secret missions for the psykers might be though.
Any word yet on how we're going to RP this? And when it will start?
edit: typo

But would that actually make sense within a single Inquisitor's entourage? I could see if we ran up against a rival inquisitor or something to that effect, and maybe even having to kinda keep an eye on eachother in general just for corruption, but are we really sposed to be THAT paranoid?

Have you read the scary stuff that psykers can do? Or be victims of?

Well yeah, but I mean isn't that pretty much a given that one has to watch for Daemonic corruption?

Yeah, but I don't think Inquisitors operate on the "it's a given" level. More like "explosive collars ahoy!"

My Character is Lazarus Wolfe, Imperial Guardsman grunt. He is not nearly as impresive as his name.

We aren't in her entourage. We're a cell of inexperienced, unproven agents. We've been chosen because, in one form or another, it is believed that we have potential. The wheat has yet to be separated from the chaff.

By order of Inquisitor Astrid Skane, you are to report to the nearest starport and present the enclosed orders to the starport staff. Arraignments have been made to transport you to your destination, where you are to meet with Captain Gries of the Imperial Guard, who will instruct you further. Tell none of your business and be mindful of any threats to the Emperor or yourself. You are expected to report at the starport at first dawn tomorrow.
Your service will be remembered when you are dead.
P.S. - Feel free to use the Momento charts to add a little extra flavor if you so choose.

And another thing, all players with finished or near-finished sheets, PLEASE post here the following things:
1. If you would prefer play by post or virtual tabletop.
2. Regardless of your choice, list your availability for virtual tabletop. I am usually available from 4PM Eastern Time on M-Th. My weekends are usually booked, so that's out for any sort of regular game.
From there, I will determine what needs to be done to help support each game type. I'd like to get started this week if at all possible.

I think I'd like Virtual TT and I'm available basically the same time frame you are.
Edit: reason I'd prefer the TT thing is because I feel like I get more into the game if it's a group that can react together and it seems like there's more creativity in the spur of the moment.

I definitely prefer play by post methods, as it gives more time to write up characters responses to events. (Play by post can read like a story sometimes if everyone is on the same wavelength). That said, for fights virtual tabletop would be a lot faster. Maybe we could roleplay until a fight, then go to virtual tabletop at pre aranged times?
I am currently availible pretty much all evenings eastern Standard Time starting around 4pm if we do virtual tabletop.
Edit: added some more explanation

I prefer play by post, and only getting together real-time for fight scenes. I am available almost all day sunday, and mon/wed/fri evenings.

I prefer play by post, but yeah, if we want to do a major fight scene I can see virtual table top being more useful.
As for my availability, I'm usually available say 6pm-11pm Mountain Standard Time Tuesday to Thursday, and afternoons on the weekend, which works out to 8pm to 1am Eastern Standard Time. Mondays I'm pretty much unavailable, and Fridays can fluctuate but I tend to play IRL with people.
Also, for the "secret missions" thing, it could simply be generalized to everyone being assigned another character to keep an eye on for signs of corruption. Of course, the paranoia of such things could easily be misconstrued as corruption, leading to... interesting character dynamics, to say the least.
EDIT: Actually, incidentally, if we do use play by post, will we be using this thread?

Either way, this will be the OOC thread for the game, I'll make a new game thread if we do play by post

Prefer virtual tabletop, but of the times listed, I'm only free on Wednesday, or late (after 8pm EST) Tuesday and Thursday.
Also,
Yelizaveta "Liza" Svalta, hiveborn assassin, with a close combat focus at present.

Yeah, I was just wondering where you wanted the responses to your Inquisitorial missive to be posted. Incidentally Hotfoot, have you had a chance to think about the way I've structured my equipment list? Because your decision there will affect how I do up the physical description of Quintos.

by Hotfoot
Characters may buy whatever they want from the gear section of the book that is average availability or lower, assuming they have the gelt. Anything scarce and requires a check with me.
Starting equipment may not be altered (sorry fellas), as often it represents the organizations you once worked for fitting you with the basic materials you need to complete your duties.
Keep in mind that working for the Inquisition does have its own perks.
As far as the response to the missive, that's the basic hook. If you want to work out how you got put on the Inquisitorial hot list, feel free to chat me up later on in the week, but those are the basic orders everyone got, regardless of what world they are from. The basic idea is that you don't know what's going on until you meet up with Captain Greis.

Okay, gotcha, I've already got an "out" for my fluff in case you said something like that. Would you like the responses here or should I wait for an in-character thread to be opened up?
Also, if we're being summoned to a spaceport, presumably because we will be gathered from across the sector, will we safely be able to pick a planet at random, or are we being drawn somewhere specific and on the map? Just want to make sure I don't, by blind luck, actually pick the destination you had in mind as my starting point.

What's the game scenario going to be like? It's not going to be something "epic" is it?
Posted: 2008-02-11 01:43am
by Hawkwings
I doubt us poor acolytes could handle "epic". Not without an "epic" monty-haul campaign beforehand, at least.
I'll be buying some miscellaneous stuff and deducting my own gelt accordingly. While we're on the subject, what is a sanctioning brand? It's part of an Imperial Psyker's starting kit.
Posted: 2008-02-11 02:14am
by Feil
It's a brand you get when you're sanctioned. Could be a big obtrusive aquila on your forehead, could be an inconspicuous serial number burned into your palm, or whatever you want it to be.

1. I have no real preference one way or the other, but if I HAD to choose, I'd say virtual tabletop.
2. I'm currently available afternoons and potentially into the evening all week for the foreseeable future. That will probably change slightly in a few weeks so I have more time in the evening/night. Timezone being GMT-7 (MST).
