Well, I'm not actually expecting you to go hunt this particular piece of ineptitude down. It's entirely incidental to your mission. That's why I told you OOC about it.

I doubt that the coats are due to local fashion, or we'd be seeing a lot more of them and the gunmen wouldn't have stood out so much amongst the crowd.

What crowd? They were on a hill. The only people most of you (Darien et al have been into the town and seen traders and such) have seen are working people (guides, hawkers, pickpockets, helicopter-fuellers), not the high powered nobility in the town, who might be wearing the latest fashions.
there was something odd about them; they wore long black coats, with golden braid and crimson highlights, not the camoflage one would expect a real sniper to wear.
Was all that was actually said about them. Shiny. But not actually uniform coats or anything.

The ordinary guys with the autoguns who were in the crowd were just dressed as ordinary people (and didn't stick out at all until they started taking autoguns out of their bags). It's still a clue, but there's nothing terribly significant about their coats. You people just seem to have a coat fixation.

Their coats are not uniforms, nor are they cult attire, or part of any military setup. They're just expensive coats.

I happened to be re-reading the Ciaphas Cain novels and saw the description of a Commissar's coat, which was fairly similar to the ones those guys were wearing.

Needless to say, it occurred to me that we may have just waxed an Imperial Guard Commissar and made an honest attempt at killing another one, as well as a couple of Guardsmen, before I realized that if someone had managed to corrupt the Commissariate it wouldn't've been two guys with autorifles shooting at us it would've been two squads with lasguns...

You're much more likely to come accross Chaliced Commissariat (IE, Lord Hax's cheap rentacop version) on this planet. But no, not a commissar's coat. That'd have insignia and (importantly) the sash.

Also, to avoid feeling like I'm peeing in your soup. I assure you, at this stage, you have found all the information you need to deal with these guys. it's just a matter of asking the right questions.

You can swagger through the town if you like. And they probably have tailors if you want to part with some coin...

Of course, the rest of the cell may want to purge the heretic first.

That all relies on the assumption that the tailor is not, indeed, himself a heretic.

I'm assuming the order of travel will be like this:

First Vehicle:
Driver: Enforcer Jaegur
Command Seat: Ajax
Gunner: Enforcer Krine
Left Rear: Eli
Right Rear: Scar

Second Vehicle:
Driver: Mithras
Command Seat: Darien
Gunner: Enforcer Bellan
Left Rear: Crom
Right Rear: Mercurius

Feel free to haggle over seats if you wish.

I don't think I've missed anyone out. The rest of the enforcers are going to be waiting behind to either commendeer further transport and head up after you, should SHTF or beseige any location in the town Mercurius is able to locate.

The command seats and drivers' seats have the best protection, so I assume that some of the least-armoured party members would grab them.

I just know that if Crom and Eli were in the same car he would try and push me out for some reason.

I have taken a helmet, but I'm not feeling in a literary mood right now.

Well that's a scary thought, considering I'm wearing a full suit of Guard flak armor :D

In your case, I just picked out the first character the spreadsheet says has drive (ground vehicle).

The nice thing about not being engaged by the forces of armed heresy yet is that I can afford to keep trying. Better than charging into a prepared position with sensors blaring the approach. :)

Yup. The unfortunate thing is... you might get a nine, and kill the party. Ah, psykers.

So yeah, I ordered a charge from the front :P Actually just want them to go ahead and execute the battle plan, I'll be in the center stiffening the locals.

But at least it'll be an entertaining death. Or, you know, just an odd psychic phenomenon that we can blame on heretical witches after the fact if the local cops notice. :D

What's the layout of the compound? Does the entrance to the pillbox offer any cover from the auspex tower & house?

A rough and ready map

The black lines are five meter contours (obviously they're not too accurate, but you can probably infer the idea, the compound's on a fairly wide, flat area at the top of an otherwise sharp, narrow hill/mt), so it's something of a crag, I'd put in elevations, but I don't think I really need to work it out. Dashed lines are a fairly elaborate aerial antenna setup, that extends to high posts across about a hundred meters all told. The buildings are self explanatory, the red lines define the autocannon arc. The brown lines represent fences, but as the place has been out of use, and in a hostile enviroment, they're weathered away to the point that their only problem for you is that they might give you tetanus. The tower's five meters at the base, which puts the green arrow (the ground based party) about ten meters from the pack of the pill box, so a full turn sprint should get you up against the back.

The enforcer vehicles are currently off the map, down the hill somewhat, having paused to let the ground pounders out where there's no clear line of sight for the defenders.

There's a window on all three main walls (the small wall is featureless) of the house, but there's no light in the house, and you can't currently see any activity. I leave it to you if you want to take precautions regarding it.

Ok so just so I'm clear, is the frontal assault on foot or are they driving the vehicles up to attack the front of the pillbox? And I'm with the enforcers/Regulator.

The vehicles stopped, and half of the team disembarked, heading up the hill on foot, away from the pill-box. Thus, the mounted-contingent is engaging the pill-box to keep its occupants busy, while the foot contingent is sneaking up the side there.
