I was taught it both in 7th grade, and my sophmore biology class. My biology class teacher in sophmore year gave a disclaimer that he wasn't arguing against creationism that he wasn't totally refuting it, but that evolution was another possibility. And, no we're aren't in the bible belt.CaptainZoidberg wrote:I was taught the basic concept of natural selection and evolution in the seventh grade, and I don't recall learning any more about evolution from required classes until the 10th grade.Straha wrote:Something of note on his E-Mail exchange. Because of NCLB, his curriculum might be similar, even if his primary school stunk.

About the "fairy tale for grownups" line: that quote is so dishonest that simply writing it off as a quote mine doesn't do it justice. Some creationists mined two quotes, merged them together, misattributed the resulting monstrosity, and then lied about the credentials of the person they misattributed it to. It's like these creationist wankers can only achieve an erection if they're being constantly dishonest.
Same with me. Thing is I went to a pretty good Private school for 7th Grade. But I know other people who didn't learn any serious biology until AP Bio in High School. (I was flabbergasted when they were only learning about ATP then.) I know other people who had teachers who had to teach multiple subjects (history, math and science for instance) and then just skirted the subjects they didn't really know or care about. Considering this kid seems to be from Knoxville it wouldn't really surprise me if that happened to him.CaptainZoidberg wrote:I was taught the basic concept of natural selection and evolution in the seventh grade, and I don't recall learning any more about evolution from required classes until the 10th grade.Straha wrote:Something of note on his E-Mail exchange. If by "life" you mean "doing the minimum amount of effort required at his remedial high school and then sitting around playing Halo and watching South Park".
