Indeed.
I didn't really give the issue much thought, though, aside from the occasional "you know, that name's pretty offensive," for many years, treating it more like an anachronism than an actively hurtful sentiment. But about when
this came out, it solidified my position against the name and the organization for digging in their heels and keeping it.

That is hardly a universal view amongst Native Americans. In fact, most polls have shown a larger percentage of Native Americans supporting than opposed to the use of the Redskin nickname. And quite frankly, the remaining minority who don't support it for the most part do not care about this issue. There are at least a couple of high schools located on Native American Reservations with the nickname of "Redskin". And It seems many of them are taking offense at the media's inference that they
should be offended by the nickname and the manufactured media circus that this has become.

Those polls were commissioned by Snyder himself and are proven to be nothing but BS.

According to the AP, Dennis Allen is the first coach fired this season. That's got to be an awkward transatlantic flight.

^Not fired (yet).
However, EJ Manuel just got benched. I don't think he was worth the 1st rounder in the first place but benching him after only four games after he was hurt in his rookie season? Gabbert got more time than that. Bills must be panicking.
Good thing they traded their first for next year as well.....

I love
this column.
Joe Flacco had his most Elite week of the season so far,, even managing to complete TWO passes on one pass as he threw a perfect alley-oop to Owen Daniles and told Daniles to tip it to Steve Smith for a touchdown. He threw for 327 yards and 3 TDs and just absolutely took out a contract against the Panthers.

Fans of the bungles don't really have any right to bash Flacco.

So, with the exception of the Steelers/Ravens week 2, all of the Thursday night games have been completely boring blowouts. I didn't even bother watching to see if Green Bay would bench their starters (they did). Hooray for another game replete with garbage time.
Come to think of it, have the Monday night games been that much better?

Last year's TNF games weren't nearly this bad, so it's probably more bad decisions about the matchup than the format itself.

These have been the 4 biggest blow outs in TNF history.

Just a fluke. They'll get better.

Well today was interesting...
For the first time in my life I was rooting for the opposing QB. Not the team mind you, just Smith. I really wanted him to be stellar and have someone else lose the game for them. (Fumble, missed field goal)
Even when it was Joe, I didn't root for him. Maybe though because there was Steve. I just really don't like Keapernick.

Well, the way i see it, how can you not root for Alex Smith? There isn't a classier guy in the NFL.
And he even completed one more pass to a 49er for old times sake to seal this win

Gruden essentially outlined how you stop Russel Wilson. Because of his height, he's a guy who needs to be able to get out of the pocket to find throwing lanes a lot of the time. You do what the chargers did, basically you CONTAIN and COLLAPSE. The D-Line must stay disciplined enough to keep him in the pocket and not over-pursue up the field to where it opens running lanes up the middle. Then you collapse on him when he can't see and tries to move around to find an open line to throw.
When they followed that game plan, the Redskins contained him for the most part. Unfortunately they all too often got too far up field leaving open running lanes that they weren't athletic enough to close down.

Kerrigan was horribly losing contain in the first series and quarter. I feel that alone cost them the game right off the bat because they scored on their first possession and that 7 points, if they could have held them, was the difference.

Gruden is wrong. The way to stop Russell Wilson, is the way you stop every zone read based offense. You hammer the quarterback on every single zone read play. Every single one. The running backs should be taken care of by the linebackers, that unblocked D end shouldn't even care about him, all he should care about is burying the QB. It is perfectly legal, and it will slow the QB down significantly after a couple of big hits.

If the blowout win over the Bengals is not a genuine comeback rather than a swan song, Tom Brady's days as an elite quarterback may be numbered. Yeah, I get that he does not have the best O-line or receiving corps, but statistically he's behind other quarterbacks on teams that don't exactly have the most talented rosters either. I've honestly never seen him play this horribly before. I hope I'm wrong, because the Patriots are the team I bandwagon whenever the Browns suck, so like I don't even bother to jump off anymore.
My Browns are finally showing promise, and Hoyer the Destroyer is kicking ass and taking names. Sure they aren't going to beat out the Bengals, but this is could be the best Browns team of the millennium. I'm still very cautiously optimistic; they are the Browns, after all.

Well, at 2-2, they already have as many wins as the 1999 team did at 2-14 (yeah, I know it's not this millennium, but Browns fans need all the positivity they can muster).

I wonder if people decide to pick fights in the shitter because they won't immediately get swarmed by cops. But then again, I can't imagine that much coherent thought going through that particular asshole's head at the time of the fight.

Gruden was specifically talking about straight passing plays, not read option plays. He burned them many times by scrambling up the middle once the D-ends got too far up field and totally lost containment. You keep him in the pocket, he can't scramble to find running or throwing lanes and his height becomes a real disadvantage trying to see and throw over the top of linemen 6'6".
The Read option plays, hitting these mobile QBs with any authority is easier said than done. You do bring up a good point though, the D-end wasn't honoring the QB on a lot of those read option plays. He should have been containing and stringing those runs out, but he got pulled inside chasing a play fake and after that he doesn't have the speed or position to recover.
