Please place the Caliphate at D4.

Also, I'd like to ask what sort of jump-point system we'll be having. Will it be like a few "Warp Highways" that allow speedy travel from one galactic region to the other, a greater number of smaller scale highways, or are we talking about it totally replacing Warp-style FTL travel? In any case, I'd like to request that my nation be at a major confluence. I'm trying to be a trading-cultural dynamo like the Omayyads :D

If we use honorverse hyperspace, we can just set up a few wormholes...

Honorverse hyperspace consists of several levels, can bands, which start at the alpha band and go up. As you go into a higher band, the faster your realspace speed is. That's the basics. Additionally there are places called grav waves, which have the net effect of causing you to speed up. There are also places called wormholes, which basically instantly connect one place with another, assuming that the ship is hyperspace capable.

B5 style is stupid, all you need is one crazed isolationist and a nuke and it's all over. I was thinking more like jump points simply being physical areas of space with each ship mounting its own drive. The entrances would be fairly large and hub areas would be somewhat spread out, say a cubic light year or so with a dozen or more scattered entrances

Actually, I think something like the 40K warp would work. Jump points would be areas with favorable currents that will take you to another spot and visa versa very rapidly. For simplicity all points would be two ways.

Normal FTL would be something like ST warp or SW hyperdrive.

If people want to read up on Honorverse hyperspace, I can post all the books. (note: all the books have been released by the publisher on CD, with permission to redistribute, so long as it isn't sold.)

It just seems a bit odd to me, having a 4000 meter ship, from a tchnologically advance civilization, whose full broadside is less than 1 of our ICBMs

Try hitting something at 100,000 kilometers with one and no US ICBM will yeild 10 megatons anyway. The worlds most common nuke is 50 kilotons

I don't think a limit on single mounts will work. However it will be talked over.

How large is each book, KB wise?

Somewhere between 1 and 8 Megs depending on the book. SotS for example is only 1 Meg. WoH is 8.

well, consider the fact that WoH is somewhere around 800 pages long, and you get the picture...

Raxmei took my idea. This is unfortunate, however it is entirely my fault due to my terrifying lack of speed. So, I am caused to create this alternate version which is horrific in its insanity and strangeness, but the idea of kung fu robots was good. And to those who I told there would be no giant robots, I apologize. There will be many giant robots. Except that they won't look like people. Only people sized robots will look like people, and only a few of them. I believe that you will find this which is stated below acceptable to the scheme if not an intelligent choice for a sensible society.

note: Please place this in one of the blocks next to Sol on the map, as it is 11.41ly away.

The guu.

The origin of the guu is not clearly known. Sometime in the year 2XXX, a colony ship carying the last neo Shaolin monks was sent to the Procyon system. Nothing was heard from it again. A scout ship was sent. When it arrived, it found that every planet in the system had been covered with machinery. As the scout orbited the dwarf star in the system, a robot floated through space to meet them. It was the same design of humanoid servant robot that had been in use during the time that the monks had launched.

Upon talking to the robot, they discovered that the robot contained the soul of one of the monks. The monks had been on the verge of death as the ship's systems failed. Through some unknown process, they were transferred into their robots. These new types of robots were guu. Using the soul of the monks, all of the machines that they had built could be powered. The scout ship's crew were rather horrified by the robot with a soul. So, they attacked it. They were defeated in microseconds, as the robot used its kung fu to subdue them and easily.

The crew's souls were taken and put into various types of robotic vehicles and allowed to do whatever they wished to, instead of being killed. And somehow this became the mission of the guu. The felt they short-circuted the natural process of reincarnation by using technology to place souls into the highest physical form possible withough going through the cycle.

The guu mechanized the systems of the stars near Procyon. When an inhabited world was found, peacful relations were established, and no one was mechanized against their will. At some times, large organizations attacked guu. When this took place, countless machines across guu territory transformed into military types and attacked with shocking speed. Enemies expecting guu to be unarmed were surprised as barges carrying hundreds of multimegaton fusion bombs suddenly appeared before them and millions of missiles streaked inwards from all directions. After an enemy civilization was defeated, its survivors would be mechanized into guu. They are then allowed to due as they please. If they attempt to attack the main guu society, which is controlled by the monks, they will be defeated.

The guu society is primarily concentrated within the Procyon system. This system is filled with machinery more densely than a newly formed system is with debris. In some areas, it is difficult to determine when planets stop and space begins, due to machines stretching out in all directions. Sixteen other systems that are relatively nearby are also controlled by the main guu society, but are not nearly as densely mechanized. Most of their worlds have machine cities, but the original ecosystems are largely intact.

There is no guu military. Whenever fighting should become necessary, billions of automatons across the territory will manufacture or transform into a near-inexhaustible supply of missiles or carriers. There are no set designs or types for any of these, and none of them exist unless they are necessary to exist.

The solution involved interstellar war and genocide.

Don't expect to have the same size population as others then. Also expect kung fu to have limited effectiveness against massive APC's filled with Nerubian warriors armed with giant submachine guns and rockets.
