Actually, they probably got the idea from Frank Zappa. His daughter's name is Moon Unit Zappa, although now I think she just goes by Moon (a wise choice).

As for other musicians giving their daughters weird name - isn't Grace Slick's daughter named China?? First time I heard that I thought:
"China Slick?? What the heck of a name is that?"

Claire and Annette are perfectly normal names. At least that's what they seem to me.
