Having spent the majority of my school life studying the sciences, and even the first year of university studying science, I found that I far preferred arts. Though science still remains a keen interest and even a "hobby" if you will, Arts is what I'm majoring in and what I'm aiming to get a job in.

Nothing wrong with a mixed backgrond. My beef is with the pure-artsies who think that basic knowledge of science and scientific method is not a life skill.weemadando wrote:Having spent the majority of my school life studying the sciences, and even the first year of university studying science, I found that I far preferred arts. About arts, I bet a lot of people just don't really know what they want to do, and so go for something easy. Arts are easy.
Me, I finished half a basic arts degree before switching into biology. It was actually family influence that helped sway the course.

She was answering my question about her being in Iowa too (like Spanky).
My grandmother happens to live in Iowa City so I will be planning a trip to
Iowa sometime in the future. Probably not for awhile though. I was there a lot last year.

I'm not that good at strings, but I'm sure verilon would give you viola lessons.
And sure, I'll give private lessons. $125 and hour.

And the thread that started out as a welcoming party has become a descusion about logical education vs artistical education and musical abilities... ... oh well. On the logical side my college major is Chemistry with a minor in Premed... so my logical base better be stronger than titanium at the end! However, I still do arts as a hobby (charcol/graphite drawings, poetry, music... and if I could afford the time and money I'd take up painting again). As for music... I play mainly the only worthy insturment, the guitar :: smacks Verilons viola playing skills :: Past that I can play simple clarinet, french horn (very out of practice), trumpet (extraordinarly out of practice), simple drums (on good days), some bass (electric...:: smacks verilons classical string insturment playing::... not classical bass) and if I can play simple Sitar, Banjo, and Mandoline (probably all spelled wrong). Arn't I so spezial!

Simple: I can play tunes like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Bell"... but ask me to play a blues solo or a jazz accompiament and you'll basically get modern metal rock (AKA no melody screaming and screeching sounds). I should have said simple clarinet tunes though, my bad. But "simple" anything when it comes to insturments in my belief means simple to play tunes, nothing complex.

Ah, ok. Makes more sense now. Clarinet was my major, that's why I asked.Larz wrote:Simple: I can play tunes like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Bell"... but ask me to play a blues solo or a jazz accompiament and you'll basically get modern metal rock (AKA no melody screaming and screeching sounds). I never understood the reasons behing taking theatre in college... if one just works at it they can learn to adlib, fake emotions, and memorize lines without having to pay over $1000. Does having a degree in theatre help to get theatre jobs or something?

And I'm a theatre/history major. Not art. But that's ok...I do draw.
