Only dreadnaughts and super-dreadnaughts mount grav lances, IIRC, and it has a relatively pathetic range. And it can be changed so that impeller-bands ARE penetrable.
Actually no ships in standard service mount grav lances.
And the standard worked out when I joined this one was, that IIRC, was that the impellers remained as they were. But the 'walls were considered penetrable by main battery guns.

Right- It's asssumed that since the Genocide Wars, assorted grav-wall penaids have been developed, allowing conventional broadside guns, like railguns, to wear down and eventually defeat sidewalls- Sidewalls are as good as regular shields, no better, no worse.

If I remember correctly, either sidewall or wedges could be defeated rather easily with laser weapons. I coud be wrong.

If I remember correctly, either sidewall or wedges could be defeated rather easily with laser weapons. I coud be wrong.
Not easily by any means. And even when they don't completely stop a shot they do reduce the damage it'll do.
