I think they grew up with the idea of the comic as child's entertainment rather than graphic novel, and with "Mighty Mouse" in mind when thinking about animated stuff.
Ask them why Watchmen and Maus are on so many highschool reading lists. :)
Really? Are they manga? Because if they were I have talk to God about landing me in Singapore instead of the US.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Heh. Now I have a question.

Who here like anime music? I know I do. Am I alone?

Hmmm... Yes... I like the End of Evangelion cover she did of "Tamashii no Rufuran", which was pretty good too.

She is Lina Inverse and does all the music for that.

But, I love Yoko and (if I could read Japanese) whoever did the music for Slayers and Record of Lodoss War.

I love that show, it's got a great mix of humor, emotion, and kickass sword fighting!
Nitpick: Inu-Yasha is half dog demon. I looked it up and the dictionary said it meant female dog demon. He's also black-haired (when not in demon form).
Youkai
NAME TRANSLATION: Used to refer to magical 'monsters' (though they may look human) that have special powers, and tend to be evil

That's what I got at

The translated Magna has Demon, but that's probably the best translation.

Nowas for the question at hand:

Why are most anime characters, even the Ethnic Japanes ones, white as my sun-starved ass? It's absurd! Take Gundam Wing for example. Quatre is supposed to be an Arab! WTF

Why are there so many Anime about one male being surrounded by many females, who beat him up on a regualar basis (Tenchi, Love Hina, Happy Lesson *shudder*).

Does Junpe and the gang ever go home in Those Who Hunt Elves or do they bring the end of the elven world?

Why does May like explosions so much after being a prostitue?

I have 15 gigabytes of anime music in something like 5000 songs.

So, no, you're not alone.

Anyone know if 'HAL' (the artist who did some songs for Angelic Layer) is in any way related to Ayumi Hamasaki? They sound exceedingly similar, and HA could be her initials.

Yogi: Tenchi is rarely beat up by his wannabe lovers; if he is, it's only by accident. Keitaro gets beat up because he's surrounded by short-tempered women and he can't get a placating response out of his mouth to save his life (how many times could a beating have been avoided by saying "Oops. Sorry, Naru." or "I love you, Naru!"?).
But, hell, it's just the price you pay for having a half-dozen women slavering over you (willingly (Tenchi) or against their better judgement (Love Hina)).

Actually guys only get beat up in shounen romance....

I have yet to see shoujo anime where the main male character gets beat up.....

Male masturbation fantasy. Most of these animes also involve much fanservice and the male character seeing the female characters nude (El Hazard, Love Hina, Tenchi, etc, these are only the ones I know from firsthand experience - there are probably a lot more out there)

Yes, I am one of them (and no, I do not have fanboy delusions about their practicality in relation to tanks, so don't even start Shep, or I'll gut you with a dull knife).

What exactly is the super robot genre? Is it like the hero rrobot genre, with all the weird stuff like "Super Dragon Mega Hyper Flaming Index Finger Hoint of Doom" and stuff?

Yeah exactly. Old school hero robots like Mazinga Zetto, Getta Robo (my favorite), and Grendizer. www.encirobot.com has lots of pics. Its in Italian though.

Oops. I thought you were referring to mecha, not the uber-giant-robot genre. In that case, I retract my previous post (except for the part about gutting Shep with a dull knife.)

I prefer to say "digging his heart out with a spoon" myself, considering hoiw offensive he's been to mecha fans, and seeing that I am in some small way a mecha fan as well.

But sicne I didn't contribute, and because I don't like pissing people off, I'll reserve judgement.

That would imply that Shep has a heart, which, from his hatred of anime, we know he does not.

And don't come near Zaia-hime! (clutches Zaia-hime protectively)

Just not popular enough. Though I have seen a few super robot animes and I don't think they're bad.

Well they were popular, back in the seventies. I mean Mazinger had Japan in a grip of merchandizing terror :D Not bad for the first Super Robot show.
