The rest get to guard against the imminant invasion of the US by that military powerhouse, Cuba.

I think there's a line for that
Another routine Navy joke about the Marines has to do with them standing in line. They really don't have anything to do on a ship so it always appear that there are Marines in line for somethng.

I actualy liked that one, but the other side to that is that durring chow on ship, it seems all sailors are on duty and get to cut in front of the jarheads.

trust a Marine to get it wrong. Keep this up and we'll start thinking you're a sailor.

ROFLOL!
btw, i don't have a problem with the marines, they do stop the bullets that'd kill everyone else. granted i've seen the local marines at Subbase Bangor training and go thru a pallet of ammo and still only barely pepper the targets... funnier than hell to watch, as even i can hit better than that.
btw, has anyone else ever noticed that marines are just "not right" when they get out and they have that wierd look on their face?
(btw, no offense is obviously meant as i have a lot of respect for anyone who goes and freely lays their life down for the country and the rest of us.)

You maybe bigger than me, you may be stronger than me and you may be a better fighter than me - but I can run away faster than you can catch up.

oh OUCH!!!! i remember this exact conversation at the college between 2 retired Vietnam era vets, one a marine (obviously) and one a surface ship sailor (he was on the Forrestal, he had his lungs burned out in that fire though.)
btw, the other great one was the little pissing match between the guy in my class and the bubblehead compsci prof (this guy later got fired for being an incompetant asshole, but every one of us in the electronics class knew this long before the admins did) i still laugh when i remember it, the 2 of them shouting at each other from across the campus courtyard...
this was also how i learned the 2 little phrases about the surface and sub fleets: 1) "there are 2 types of ships: submarines and TARGETS!" 2) "the problem with subs is that 150 men go down, 75 couples come up." (this was followed a short time later by a round of cussing and then "what? you had to clean the spooge off the bulkheads when you came into port?")

You'd better hope that your "run away faster than you can catch up" is faster than 2800fps.

My first ship was the Forrestal's sister ship the Saratoga. Both were home ported in Mayport, Florida. I briefly set foot on the Forrestal and knew some guys stationed on her. She was rumored to have ghosts from that fire.

Just so you know for future reference, whenever you see two or more servicemen from different services ripping shit out of the other, just sit back and enjoy the show. Because whenever a Civvie tries to take one side they are always surprised to find the all Parties turn on them.
We're not even at the point of light joshing yet so it should be safe to dip your toe in. But remember that we get to call fuck out of each other because we earned the right. Sounds bad I know, but after yu join up you'll understand. If in doubt And I'm involved then your safe to call fuck out of the British Army cause I'll not go too hard on you. Especially as your looking to join the Military.
But it's trap I've seen too many people just blindly walk into and it can really hurt thier feelings as they were just trying to join in or help out.

trust me i know, but i appreciate the warning. i've joined these little matches before, usually on the side of the USN because i know enough about that branch that i can pretty much safely get away with it, well that and the fact i was in a class full of ex sailors for about 2 years, so i guess i kinda absorbed some stuff from them and got absorbed into their group a bit.
as a rule though i stay back and just watch, besides nothing's more enjoyable than watching 2 servicemen (or ex servicemen) from differant branches or major positions (probably not worded right, you know like subs vs. surface, air vs. support, etc.) duke it out verbally.

Yeah, it's just that someone blundered into a knock about between Greg, Matt and Myself on ASVS and got ripped to shit. On the streets or whatever then, unlucky, but the Webboards and NG's are communities and I don't want people get hurt unneccesarily.
