sorry if i missed them i was just over at saxtons site again and i was looking at the Devastator model and the Avenger model
i wonder if those numbers i used and you used are high.
a more conservative view.
ISD II
64 38cm hvy tl in 8 turrets of 8
at least 2 double turrets in the brim trenches say 19cm in size, maybe 4 turrets its hard to tell
then 60 60mm laser cannons for point defense
80mm ion cannons for point defense
and another pair of 19cm double turrets on the ventral side just in front of the main hangar.
man i need to make up my mind on this dont I
and then for the RSD which I still don't know why the NR would spend the money on these ISD wanna bes and look like they are just a smaller kinder form of the Empire.
48 38cm TL in 6 turrets of 8
40 60mm laser cannons point defense and 40 80 millimeter ion cannons point defense, and maybe a few 19cm turrets in the brim trenches.
which do you think is better the larger number of weapons or the ones that can be visually accounted for?

The larger number of weapons. It falls in more closely with the Executor being 11 times stronger.
Though really, if you do the math, the Executor ends up being almost (19.something) 20 times more powerful, not 11

I love command ships but every writer makes it too easy to destroy one. I would like a command ship and attending destroyers to just obliterate a nr sector fleet. I would be ready to die then. I would die a happy man.

Yes, but how does this fit with all the accounts of torpedoes taking down shields (like it or not, we have to factor X-wing into this)? Are they perhaps only present on ISD1s? Also, is this more of Saxton's doing, as he was the one who pushed for PD cannons in ICS?[/quote]
Urgh.... Sackpole.... you.... bastard....

Possible solution: the point defense canons can't shoot down torps launched from very short distances.
40 canons is not very much, so they're probably thinly spread all over the hull, and the Rogues know how to launch the torps minimizing the number shot down.
Alternatively, the point defense canons may be intended for anti-starfighter use, and not for taking down torps.

That would explain it. I still wonder if that is Saxton's influence though.
Here is a new topic:
The Nebula class Star Destroyer. Popped up in the BFC. The variant on it is the Endurance class Fleet Carrier.
However I can't find any stats on it. I am wondering if the Defender class SD is suppossed to be it instead of the Republic class. That would fit slightly better, as they are they same length.
If anyone has any stats on it, could they post them here? It might be in Cracken's Threat Dossier, that's where the rest of those ships are.
Here is what the Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia says on it:
Nebula-class Star Destroyer
one of the first major designs produced by the New Republic, the Nebula-class was a mobile assault platform similar in its role to a Star Destroyer. First unveiled some eleven years after the Battle of Endor, the Nebula-class was considered one of the new class of starships produced for the New Republic's Navy, and measured 1,040 meters in length. Can we stop with the 3 punctuation marks now??? Maybe switch to haiku instead???
Eh, no the
Republic Star Destroyers were designed after the Reborn Emperor...
Incorrect. The new ships of the Republic fleet were all designed during and after the DE period. Read the Essential Chronology.

Page 3 of this thread. Might be page 4.
Are we even sure that there would be a Republic Class Star Destroyer? Many of the EU craft are based on WEG and we all know how accurate WEG is not!!!
I would argue that there would be no need for the New Republic to build Republic class Star Destroyers when they have the Mon Cal Star Cruisers that can go head to head with ISD'S.
It is mentioned in passing in the BFC books.
I have the Essential Chronology. It was something like: "After Palpatine's victories the New Republic needed a new class of warships." So it was after

Alright, point conceeded. It was just a notpick anyhow.
Now does anyone know anything about th Nebula class SD?

I once found a pic of them and it was the same as the defender class.
I try to find that again.

That pic comes from Starships of the Galaxy by WOTC and shows the Defender class.
I am looking for a shot from Cracken's Threat Dossier or something that shows it and specific stats.
Perhaps I should email the author, he gave out the stats for the Kwing.

Yeah, really it didn't help the New Republic anyway, the Yuzzhan Vong have kicked thier asses around the Galaxy. And it'd be interesting to see a Nebula Class SD.

It is merntioned in Gamer that a group of Imperial Loyalist slicers hacked into the Republic computers, forged and order for the Chimera to be decommissioned and disassembled, then captured it and brought it back to Pelleon as a morale builder after he lost his SSD in the Adumar campaign.
Whats Gamer? and Pellaeon had an SSD?! What name was it, and what book?

Gamer is a reference to SW Gamer, a short-lived magazine that held information on the RPG and articles, short stories, etc. I think it is now being incorporated into SW Insider, to which I subscribe.
Pelleon's SSD was also named the Chimera, after his old ISD.

No, he got the old SSD from the Penstar Alignment IIRC.
I believe it was named the Intimidator, but don't quote me on that.

One of the New Class Ships, shares a hull with the Endurance class Fleet Carrier.

The Nebula-class Star Destroyer is the peak of modern Star Destroyer design. Occasionally called a "pocket Star Destroyer" it is only 65% as large as the classic Imperial Star Destroyer, but is a match for the Imperial II. A fully capable cruiser, the NSD has more shielding and armor than any known ship in the galaxy, combines the best features of its predecessors and is expected to defeat any one enemy Star Destroyer, or two heavy cruisers, or up to an entire line of lighter Imperial ships.
(Comment: WEG and WotC screwed up the name, calling it the "Defender-class Star Destroyer" even though there is already a Defender-class assault carrier. I'm taking the author's word (as seen in Ender's link) over their word.)

and WEG says that an Executor class Command Ship is only 8,000m long. A very accurate source book.............not. I have that same book, I hate it.

The fact that they post a blueprint with an ISD, showing that the globes are shield generators helps their cause. I could find but one set of blueprints (c. 1977) showing the globes to be scanners. Are there more links demonstrating this?

What is the most accepted number of ISD's within the Empire at its height, and upon what is that number based?

The official number is 25,000 ISDs. I think this is stated in Vision of the Future.

Aaargh, you're sure it's 25,000 only? If that's the case, I'll soon be eating my words on another posting. I was sure there were more....
