Jaguar Warriors!!! Check it out, looks great.
Jaguar warriors are fearsome troops, who through great skill and courage are allowed to wear uniforms made from jaguar skins. Their open faced helmet resembles a snarling jaguar and causes fear in opposition soldiers, as it marks them as a fearsome warrior of great skill. They are equipped like most soldiers wearing ichcahuipilli armour, chimalli shield and wielded a maquahuitl club.
How fun will it be slaughtering these inept barbarians with the latest in European war technology?

That's cool, thought I can't help but think "FURRY!" when I see them. Still waiting on the Kataphraktoi, though.

Speaking of which, I wonder, will the Greeks even be able to go to the American continent? As their faction description follows the annoying, unecessary,"slightly obsolete" crap in the late game, will it just take everyone straight out of the game if they do it? Kataphrakts versus Jaguar Warriors? Of course, the Kataphrakts will win but ... it will look so wrong.
Same goes for all of the Muslim factions, the Russians, Eastern Europeans-everyone except the Spaniards, now that I think about it.

I don't see why they wouldn't be able to, just because that's not what actually happened wouldn't fly.

One problem that RTW has when it comes down to modelling reality is how units are dynamic with enemy tactics and technology. Whilist saw in Rome the evolution of the legionary was well modelled upon that of historical developments, for defeated factions nothing but guesses could be made about their 'would have been' units had they not lost.
The Total War games should not be blamed for not having 'would have been units,' but I was always thought how the Byzantines could not build Varangians and cataphracts in the late period was excessive as a powerful emperor should be able to afford whatever he wanted.
Edit - I just realized that after all this time I had written "should be blamed", not "should not be blamed" as I had intended.

In RTW you could send Egyptians who came straight out of Rameses the First 's kingdom to Britain and massacre Druids with the Pharaoh's Guards.
If the Byzantines cannot go to America after their conquest of the Franks, I'll be royally pissed.
I must agree with you entirely about the units; by 1400 I'll have restored the original borders of the Eastern Empire, or more, I won't be cowering in the last hovels of a broken culture.

They're renamed the Greek's Naptha Throwers to "Naffatun":
Naphtha is a mixture of chemicals that become a fiery liquid that is difficult to put out. These men throw deadly ceramic pots of flaming Naphtha that burst into flames on impact spilling a sticky molten mess that can seep through any armor. The prospect of a fiery death can unnerve even the bravest warrior
Unless they're not Greek units, I really can't tell. But IIRC the Greeks were the only ones who had Naptha in the original Medieval.

Voodoo Extreme has
ultra high-res screenshots posted. If you're on dial up, don't even bother with the link - the images 5000x3750 with file sizes range from 1.8MB to 4.6MB. And there are 12 of them.

Wonderful ... but where, pray, would we see such wonderful resolutions in play? Are we going to play MTW2 on a Times Square (NYC) TV? Not even the Matrox 3-monitor solution has this kind of resolution.

New unit:
Armored Longbowman:
These troops, armed with the famous longbow, favour greater protection over mobility. When engaged in melee, their heavy armour provides protection that allows them to hold out quite a bit longer than their unarmoured counterparts. The swords they carry provide a handy fallback weapon in close combat.

Man, I'm so fucked when this is comes out. My wife hates that I play R:TR, and this looks to be even more in depth than that awesome game.

The fifth and final podcast of interviews about M2TW with CA have been released on the TW homepage.
- the greatest type of castle, the Citadel, has three seperate lines of defence. Very hard to take by storm;
- lots and lots of siege weapons in the game- a large variety of cannons, including the massive cannon the Turks used to breach the walls of Constantinople (hopefully they model it accurately, it took hours to reload and was very inaccurate)- and rocket launchers in use by the Mongols and a very small amount of other factions.

The castles are going to be so fucking awesome to attack.

I remember seeing reconstructions of rocket launchers in a Chinese museum based on Song dynasty designs. This is significant since the Song fell to the Mongols, who would apparently have taken it to Europe.

So fucking awesome to
defend. I have half a mind to let the Turks make it all the way to Constantinople, just to taunt them from the walls and act like I'm Theoden from LotR.
Then I'd ride out with Kataphrakts and crush them. With the music and everything.

I really hope the AI can cope with city assaults better, they're completely retarded in Rome, even when I don't try to confuse them.

The podcast guy seems to think so, but I guess we'll see.

The AI will always have some kind of quirk you can exploit. The RTW/BI AI has always had a problem of getting too close to defense towers during city assaults and sieges, but if you simply coded the AI to keep its men out of range of towers at all times, it would take forever for him to assault a city. He'd have to knock out or capture every tower within range of his route to the citadel before making his move, and he'd probably run out of time first.

I'm getting really impatient waiting for this game to go gold. It feels like it's taking forever, especially since I know it won't even be until next year.

Surely you jest. I thought it was coming out this year?

"Late 2006" means "Early to mid 2007", using my handy Game Developer -> English translation dictionary.

I'm inclined to agree with DW, but that's not a bad thing. The R:TR team are doing some pretty cool stuff with BI, and I want to try that out before I go balls-deep into MTW2.

Everywhere that I've seen the release date has said November

Ah well, such is life.
Edit: and Amazon now says November the 24th. Take that as you will.

I would like it to be out on time, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Besides, I'll have to upgrade my computer when it comes out anyway.

My new PC's specs have been all worked out. Hopefully going to get it sometime soon.
