Holy shit! 11 fucking gigs needed to install it! And once it's installed it takes up 7 and a bit!
Well it's installed anyway, if you don't see me for a few days don't panic.

The manual that comes with is really quite detailed, easily the same kind of indepth detail you'd expect from a game from the mid-ninties, except not as thick, heh.

Serves you right for getting DoW: Dark Crusade 2 weeks before us
First imnpressions:
The Videos are back and they are cool, though it's surprising how many assination plots are foiled by a random woman pointing and screaming.
The line that defines whether a town is a military or merchantile town is more clear now as you can either make it a city (Merchantile) or a castle (Military). Cities can build all the trade bonuses and things like universities, but can't build any seriously good troops, castles on the other hand get the troop training facilites but not the trade things. If you change your mind yu can convert it to the other at almost any point, but you lose the associated buildings and it could be downgraded.
Characters now seem to respond to what their doing more in terms of what traits they aquire. I had a prince sitting around as a governor and he got a trait saying he thought he was underappreciated, so i got him out in the field taking rebel towns and he quickly regained his loyalty.
The roman Senate missions have been replaced by 2 things, firstly a council of nobles (Missions with rewards, but no penalties for not doing them) and, if your catholic, missions from the Pope (Which contributes to how friendly he is towards you). Noble missions appear to take into account where you are, so no more "Take this city on the other side of the world" missions. Ones i've had so far have been "take the rebel town next to us", "Build some troops at this city" and "Initiate diplomatic relations with this faction".
There's now little Heretic and Witch 'agents' that you can have your priests denounce and get them executed.
Merchants aren't that special but they give you a bit more money.
You can get guilds offering to come to your faction if you do certain things. So far i have a thieves guild (lots of spies) and a guild of explorers (exploring i assume).
The Pope is still a cock. I was 1 off full friendlyness and he still sends inquisitors against me.

Hey, you think that makes sense, the developers are also Aussie, and we get it after too.
And the UK got beaten out by freaking Denmark, FFS!

That's why you shouldn't bother being a Catholic faction. Give in to your inner Greek Orthodox.
I'll play Holy Roman Empire first, I think, to unlock all the playable factions, then go Byzantine, as it was meant to be.
I was considering cracking it to get all factions immediately, but meh.
Unless you can tell me different?

Installing my game at the moment. At first when I saw the two discs I was worried I was missing discs, there was no way this game was going to fit on 2 cds. Then I realised it was 2 DVDs. Wow, this is one monster of a game.
This'll be a fun evening tonight!

Being the complete and utter plonker that I am, in my first try as England, I utterly forgot that Scotland would be a threat within about twenty turns, so by about turn thrity, they were regulery attacking York, and because of other issues, I could not dent them for love nor money nor a dozen catapaults.
So, in my secound go, I rushed up North, took Edinbrough and their other city...only to find out they had taken the Emerald Isle..bugger. but atleast that is a pityfully small villige, so I can take them out with ease.

Check twcenter forums. They've cracked the code for everyone but the Aztecs and the emerging factions. Too bad CA had to fucking put everything in packed files.

I don't think that my computer will run this as more than a slide show.

I tried running it on my P4-3GHz with 1GB RAM and a Radeon 9600 and it ran like shit. Pure slide show. The "auto-detect optimum settings" button didn't help at all. But I went into the graphics settings and manually cranked down the display level and then it ran fine, so I can live with that. My son's machine has an Athlon64 3200+ processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and a Radeon X800 GTO card and it runs the game smoothly on default display settings, so it appears that the bottleneck is my cheap old graphics card. But as I said, I can live with decreased graphic detail levels as long as I can still play the game. I have better things to spend money on than a high-end graphics card.

You have more tolerance for low settings than me. When MTW2 looks worse to me than RTW because I have to run it at such low res, that's when I decide it's time to upgrade.

For me, it just means that I wait till my son goes to bed and then I use his machine. They're networked, and I can just copy savegames back and forth. I'm not spending the money to keep
two high-performance rigs current at all times.

I only have 512 MB RAM, it would have killed my system.

I finally got Longbowmen into my armies, sadly, unless I want a dozen bastard catholic nations hot on my heels, I can't actually do much with them until I get a few more stacks...
