What would you think about someone who said he doesn't like live action based on a bad film he saw once?

Yeah, well we do, and its our opinion that his opinion was.. well, shit. So we responded in hopes that we could help to persuade him into rethinking his opinion.

Whether or not he takes our advice and checks out some of the stuff we recommended is up to him.

I was watching an episode of Mobile Suit Gundum, and this ship(whitebase?) was attacked by 20 fighters, and they dispatched TWO, which then TRANSFORMED into mecha in MIDAIR

Why the fuck did they last more two seconds against TWENTY ENEMY FIGHTERS?

Ah, welcome to "The Mecha Effect" or "Isn't Top Secret Prototype Technology Great?"

Which of course begs the question, why does Shep watch Mecha anime if he knows he doesn't like it.

If you want *relatively* reliastic Mecha anime, try Gundam 8th MS Team. The Mecha there get taken out by people in "normal" vheicals, civilians with rocket launchers, tanks, etc.

Just try to ignore the big-ass flying mech that can vaporise a mountain.

Yeah. A Harrier pilot would just laugh and ram the nozzles of his AV-8B
forward and VIFF his way around the transforming mecha and fill it with
25mm gunfire

I hate to say it, but it doesn't change the fact that they did... MEANING:

a) awesome countermeasures
b) fucking remarkable armour
c) something else...

The fact remains that we see visual evidence that 2 of them can survive that kind of assault. We can only make assumptions as to how as no real excuse is given. Kind of like we can't explain how hyperspace in SW works, but we see it work, so we assume it can.

Brother was on the Computer and was watching an anime show, so I hung
around and watched it too.

I just caught that. Yeah, that would explain a lot. I would stay the HELL away from Gundam W (Gundam Wing), Turn A Gundam, Gudam Seed . . . or just about ANY Gundam except for 8th MS. ESPECIALLY stay away from Gundam Seed. I know Mecha are supposed to be the "star" of the show, but the way everything just jobs to even the "generic" mecha in that show pisses me off.

Of course, since the Gundam and its associated components can shrug off 120mm machine gun fire, the 25mm won't do jack shit to it. :P

And I should add that Mobile Suit Gundam was made in 1979, back when the Super Robot anime genre was still strong. The sponsor of the show, toy maker Clover, said that the ratings were low (they measured the show's ratings with toy sales, and more teenagers were actually watching it than little kids), and demanded that Sunrise add in the G-Armor, so they could sell more toys.

Since they based the toys on the older designs for the series (back when it still called Gunboy and more like a super robot show), nobody bought them, and the show was cancelled from 50 episodes down to 43 (which was actually for the best, as Tomino's revised ending was better than the one he wrote originally).

Yogi: I personally think that 0080 is better than 08MST, and it has less stuff that Shep would go fucking nuts over, as it's more centered on drama and the moral costs of war.

As you can see in my signature, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is my favourite (and I'm thrilled they're releasing it in the US this year), and I personally like what I've seen so far of Turn-A Gundam.

Recoil dictates that such machine guns fire rounds with mass comparable to a grape fruit at rock thrown by 12-year-old Palestinian velocities. Real cannon rounds will punch through one side and out the other before exploding in the next one.

Unless of course you're in a transforming fighter jet that can take hits from its own 55mm armor piercing rounds while being able to out VIFF the best VIFFing of any AV-8B. :D That is basically what the Sv-51 from Macross Zero should be able to do. Note that I said "should" because I know and fully accept that animators can and will screw things up. Now I'm not going to claim anything about the Variable Fighters from Macross. One last thing though, you should've stayed around and saw what happens to that F-14 pilot who ejected. He meets up with some locals on the island of Mayan and learns of their "Love Stick" ritual. Plus you missed some great lines from Roy Focker in his pep talk to some newbie pilots, "They always say take it slow on your first mission. Forget that and do it just like your first lady. Be delicate and daring at the same time. "

Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy is better than the series because they took out that damn silly G-Armor.

come to a stop faster than your transforming fighter, and for much
much much less money too....

Of course that's assuming the F-16 isn't shot down by the VF-1's medium range misiles first. Better "Chaff Chaff! Do some of that pilot shit!" :D

You would like to think that wouldn't you. Not only can the Veritech hover but it can, flip, manuever, and skydive whilst firing off loads of missiles and its 55mm cannon at multiple targets while its in humanoid form.

Less money? Why the fuck should I care about money when it comes to developing new technology? Plus the Harrier is an archaic piece of shit that has killed and injured more of its own pilots than most other craft in service from mechanical failures.

The fact remains that while by todays standards Veritech fighters are impractical, they would still be far more advanced and more capable than anything we have in the air today.

Whats wrong with that? I actually though it sounded fine. I think its alot better than "Variable fighter" or "Robo-technology" And the I in Veritech isnt meant to be pronounced that strongly as though its was a Y.
