*watches end cinematic after winning for the Greater Good*
Thats hardly exterminatus, I'm leaning even farther to that we are going to get a Campaign expansion with three new planets to rage war for.

The Eldar and Necrons are also amusingly good at trash-talking. The Tau, on the other hand, are long-winded, and lack the epic tone that the Imperial Guard has. Here's a snippet of what was said when I invaded Or'es Tash'n the second time around.
Etherial: blah blah blah...blah blah Greater Good blah...blah blah blah...
Farseer Taldeer: Foolish child.
Also interesting, once the Tau military presence was driven off Kronus, the human population of Or'es Tash'n rioted and basically slaughtered the remaining Tau. That should shut the Tau-fanboys up, the Greater Good doesn't really work on humans without the guns of the Fire Caste to back it up.

A better anti-Tau fanboy example is the fact that they have re-education style concentration camps (Think 1984 on a mass scale on different species and more tech). [The protoganist of Firewarrior ends up in one apparently, and they're common].Matt Huang wrote: Also interesting, once the Tau military presence was driven off Kronus, the human population of Or'es Tash'n rioted and basically slaughtered the remaining Tau. They really Are Russkies in space (Though they lack the genocides needed to be Stalinists in space, thats what the IoM's for

Amazingly. I don't think that Chaos has all that great of Trash talk in this game. I should go smash into the SM base to see how they react to Chaos at the gates.

Jeezus the Necrons are cheaty here.
Played a 2 on 2 the other night, me and a friend vs 2 computer armies. I played Necrons, my buddy was Tau. With 1 squad of Necron warriors I kept the computer Eldar pinned to his base for 1/2 the game. The Eldar would send waves of Guardians, Banshees, Seer Concils, Farseers, etc and this one squad of warriors just kept taking them out. It was obscene really, but the counter was the computer Necron team sent a warrior sqaud, a lord and some wraiths into my friend's base, and tore it apart. Luckly he was able to send a drone into my base and make a new baracks before his baes was wiped out. 1 lord, 1 warrior squad and 2 or 3 wraiths wiped out his base, his army plus my necron warriors, lord and immortals. So we have to hole up in my base, my revived lord, some flayed ones, parahis and warriors holding the door closed against the computer while my Tau allies rebuild, did I mention that the Eldar had yet to beat my ONE SQUAD OF NECRONS. Any how, we were able to rebuild and take the day in the end, but damn, Necrons are cheaty bastards.

Hey, what factions of Necron can you choose in skirmish?

Factions as in schemes? Their factions are based on different worlds and tomb worlds. There's Kronus, Rahe, Lorn V, and a bunch of other planet names that I presume are tomb worlds where that particular army of Necrons came from.Shroom Man 777 wrote:Hey, what factions of Necron can you choose in skirmish?

You can only get two squads of these guys but their guns make Tau pulse rifles look like water pistols.

Yeah, just played as the Orks...wow.

My imagination is that during all of DoW and WA the Orks have been focused on melee with poor ranged capability. So during all that time, this frustration and rage at getting creamed in ranged has been building up inside the Ork race and when DC came out, it exploded and manifested as the Flash Gitz.

If the 'statue' you mention is the monument I'm thinking of, then it isn't really a statue at all. In the mission where you assault the Necron stronghold, you can find a simple black obelisk dedicated to the Void Dragon in the southerly quarter of the map, I believe. True to form, said obelisk radiates "loathsome energies" which somehow turn your vehicles against you. The Pariah also mentions something about "all machines ultimately serving the C'tan in the end..." when you come across it.NecronLord wrote:A statue of the Void Dragon? What kind of form is it in? Can anyone get a screenshot?
None of the Necrons sans that unique Pariah ever speak in the game, campaign or otherwise. As for its history, it was apparently an Imperial archeologist working on a dig in or around the Necron catacombs when his party was ambushed and killed. He was later brought back in his present form, and presumably speaks on the behalf of the Necron Lord to all the 'living' present on Kronus.Talking Pariah? Do any of the other units talk (coherent sentances like 'we will first put you in yours' I mean)? What's the history of that one?

That Tau vs SM one is pretty classic:Shroom Man 777 wrote:Come on! Let me hear the trash talk!
"Surrender human, if not for you then for the Greater Good!"

Necrons vs Tau is surprisingly witty:

"Gladly, but first we must help you into yours."

I'm playing the various factions in between the campaigns, just to get a feel of the new units.
I have to say I am unimpressed with the new Chaos unit, the Daemon Prince. I know he's basically a Bloodthirster 1.5 but he comes out so late and normally has little impact on any game I played with him.
I enjoyed the Heavy Weapons squads of the IG as it almost made up for the loss of inifite turret swarms and thought the Grey Knights that the Space marines used were spiffy.
Time will tell what the other new units fare

Yeah. So far the feel I'm getting is that Chaos got chumped bigtime by the new expansion. Especially in the campaign where you don't even get to have your Daemon Prince until damn near endgame (if at all) Everybody else is either new (And scary as hell, fucking Tau and Necron) or got some new unit they can put out relatively quickly that can really help (Heavy Weapons teams, who by the way fuck lots of shit up)

Damn. I wanted to see the Void Dragon! Any symbology on it? I played through the rest of the factions last night, just 1v1 games to see the new units.
Space Marines: Grey Knights are sweet and they come out really early. I didn't pay much attention to them but they were good while I was watching them.
Orks: Flash Gitz come out too late IMHO. They are really strong but by the time you get to a horde big enough to get them, you've probably already won.
Eldar: I completely forgot to play them now that I think about it. What new unit did they get?
Necrons: I played them first on a 1v1 on Through the Breach. Now, I'm sure they have a specific opening build order and I just haven' found it, but I got OWNED by chaos. They would rush me with a lord and some marines and my Lord and squad of warriors would proceed to be bitch slapped all over the place. By the time I had built up my forces, they had tons of marines, Lord, Sorcerer and I got straight out owned. I played another map against Eldar where I had a bit more room and got to the end game for Necrons. I think the Necrons have the best End game with 2 super units in the Monolith and the Nightbringer, so if you can get them to the end game you'll probably win. Getting there, is something I'm not too good at yet.
Tau: I started the campaign as Tau and haven't played around wit Kroot yet but I don't hate them. They definietly aren't my favorite. I'll have to play around with them a bit to see what I like making with them.

Yeah, Obliterators and Upgraded Chaos Preds are a must-have in any Chaos army as they can ruin the day of a lot of things. Unfortunately both of them are extremely late-game. Also the fact that their standard unit can infiltrate is really nice. From what I can see, Chaos may very well have the best late game with their Possessed Marines, Obliterators, Upgraded Preds, and two beefy melee superunits. I think I still would have preferred if Chaos had gotten a new daemon unit (like Bloodletters) or maybe some Chaos terminators.Nephtys wrote:Chaos seems to have gotten some improvements elsewhere though. I used to laugh at obliterators, until one squad of them killed my dreadnaught before it could even reach them for hand to hand.
One thing I really like and I wish they'd spread to the other factions is the paths thing they did with the Tau. It would be pretty easy to do with most of the other factions as well.

What would be sweet is if they let you pick docterines(that's misspelled, I know it) for your armies, at least the ones that can use them on the tabletop, before the match/campaign starts or at least during army painting. It'd bring a whole helluvalot of variation to the game.Captain Cyran wrote: One thing I really like and I wish they'd spread to the other factions is the paths thing they did with the Tau.
