It's just hard to target ships accurately with a superlaser... Although you can do it if the target ship is big enough and the range is great enough to negate maneuvering.

Superlasers have always had planets as their main target. Lower power ones are good for bypassing planetary shields, higher power ones are good for simply obliterating pesky rebel planets.

I suppose you could have an "all eggs in one basket" weapon, just a single massive turret on your ship or something, but chances are that will get disabled before you can fire a second shot...

no you see my weapon is specifically designed to target capships, not planets, it would be infact useless for that purpose, its sole real purpose is to fend off an attacking navy, being able to demoralize them by destroying their lead vessel in a single shot. think dark reign or the real Borodin from Starlancer, thats where the idea is from.

my big MFing ship was originally a superweapon platform dreadnaught but i was advised against that so i changed it and made a superweapon platform/defense station.
and a whole bunch of solar cutting lasers for slicing up unshielded ships, of course these things would fall on a single well placed hit.

It's best not to use Uber-wank weapons. We've all seen how they generally screw you over, thanks to Lazerus in STGOD4. Try just a big ship with plenty of large capital guns.
